All true but you wont be popular on here saying it.
Like many on here, I have a number of friends and family working in the nhs. None want to strike and at the moment none are, but their (very real) anger appears to be less about pay than the media are making ou,t and far more about their...
Perhaps you should re read my post. Where did I suggest privatisation? I was suggesting (trying to at least, but you clearly don't do 'debate') that we need an open, non politicised debate as to what the nhs should be delivering and how we pay for it. I will be very surprised if you can show me...
The NHS is no longer fit for purpose for many reasons and one is how the demands on it have increased massively as we all live longer and treatments for everything become more available but at huge expense. Its worth remembering that the original nhs offered everything for free but the same...
I take your points and I share your misgivings about this gov staying in power for another 18 months. I felt like that at the end of the last long period of Tory rule which saw Tony Blair come to power on a wave of national optimism and, for me at least, genuine excitement. Labour fought that on...
Perhaps the issue is sentencing of RTAs per se. This was an accident but due to negligence. As far as I am aware, the driver hadn’t been drinking, texting or using the phone. Yet the penalties when these are factors never seem to reflect the crime either.
My Father was a rear gunner in bombers. He rarely talked about it but if asked he would brush the reality away by describing the war as his ‘gap year’ as getting away from home and travelling was an impossibility for his generation.
He also always said he was ‘just doing my job’.
I don’t think...
Saw the stranglers at the Brighton centre c1979 when we had arsenal at home in the fa cup on a Tuesday night. Seemed half the goldstone decided to skip the game to see the gig. But the band went to the match and so were mega late on stage and half cut. They were crap!
But norvegicus remains my...
Strikes and meeting the demands of the public sector unions will sadly ultimately hit the most in need in our society the hardest. I don’t think they can take any more ‘hits’.
I also don’t think an election will serve the country well - yet. Labour are not prepared for government yet and being...
Interesting mix of experiences. Our firm (small, only c 40 staff) is privately owned and the boss invites everyone plus partners to a pub do, picks up the bar tab all night and a 4 course dinner plus pays for taxis for everyone to get home safely. Everyone goes and has a great night out. Nothing...
Having always played Rugby but watched football, I cannot understand why the authorities don’t apply the same rules as to how players interact with refs in rugby as football. There seems to be no desire to protect refs in football from abuse, intimidation etc even at school level. Yet in rugby...
That happened near us a few years ago. He also tried to close the nearby recycling site that had been operating for 20 years before he moved in nearby. He was a journalist for the mail on Sunday which may have illustrated his character and he used his profession to harangue and attack decent...
Reading today about the experiences of civilians in Ukraine who have no power or heat in freezing conditions, are being continuously shelled, and now we learn have been subjected to various abuses by the Russian invaders including widespread rape, I don't think anyone would argue there is not a...
I wasn't 'laying blame' and I'm not sure why you assume that those who are unemployed are 'poor'.
Whilst I acknowledge all economic theory appears to be open to question now, it has always been accepted that c.5% unemployment is 'full employment' ie the % of the population who are unavailable...
Fair comment re seasonal nature, Therefore logic says we should encourage people who are happy to work seasonally i.e. foreign labour on seasonal only visas. This is all the farming unions are asking for
