Sure. But my point is that someone who seemed to be - according to some - surplus to requirements at Chelsea - suddenly because an important player for them.

I doubt Fergie is on peanuts here now and I also doubt WH could offer 'mega bucks' if you're thinking he'd go there for financial reasons.

Colwill was never surplus to requirements, only some Albion fans said that with no knowledge, often a fantasist theory of Colwill + cash swap for Caicedo. He was only 19 when he was loaned to us, highly regarded through all the England age groups. The moment he played well for us, his fate was sealed, they were never going to sell. Especially with their shambolic defence 2022/23.

Called by many here in summer 23 …. the Chavs would have both Caicedo and Colwill in their squad.

Looks like this has come via his agent...

He...."is not sure he has a long-term future at Brighton under Fabian Hurzeler. But he would prefer to make his decision in the summer rather than now.

Ferguson is aware that a decision may be taken out of his hands if Brighton accept an offer for a permanent deal..."
Reposting from earlier in the thread. My take on this is might he might come back if FH is gone next season.

We dodged a bullet with Colwill when you consider JPVH signed a new contract once it was clear Colwill wasn’t coming here. I doubt he’d still be here if Colwill had signed.

In fairness I would have taken Colwill at the time though as I had no idea if JPVH was any good at the time. Hindsight eh

I sincerley hope that we are not choosing Hurzelar the coach over Ferguson the player. Ferguson has looked poor this season but has shown to be a better player than Hurzelar is a manager/coach/cheerleader.

Will Ferguson get games now Bowen is fit again
He'll be on the bench, same as he would have been here. There is Ings too and I reckon GP will probably start him in front of Evan. Plenty of hype about Evan. He'll need to show dedication and ability in training and influence when he is brought on off the bench. Then he might get a start.

When did he last look a real threat when he has played? Bit of a mystery.

Anyway it all adds to the interest.

PB probably reckoned a transfer to GP would sort out the situation a bit. A parting of FH and Evan, at least temporarily, is probably a good thing for all.

FH needs to get on with the young talent or else he will be gone, whatever the results. Our model, the process, is that we attract and nurture young talent. TB will not accept a coach who is unable to do that.

he was shit for 20 odd games last season under Roberto to , who in the end said Mark O’Mahony was better suited to the way we played

Colwill and JPVH … sounds like a good pairing.

You've just offered ONE explanation to help you understand it (a falling out). Or it could be that he isn't getting any game time here (for another reason) and the player/club want to change that. Maybe he wasn't fully fit and needs to be worked back up to full fitness and the club think a change of environment is the way to do that.

Does it leave us weaker? Not really – not based on what we've seen of EF this season and the other attacking options that are in the squad right now.

If I'm honest, I don't really get why people don't understand it, or why they immediately think it's the end of Fergie's Albion career. Just think of the Colwill loan and how that played out, for one of loads of examples.
Colwill wanted to be a Chelsea player and was happy to go on loan as part of his development. Ferguson very clearly wants out from under a manager who doesn’t like him and has shot his confidence to bits. Very different.

Well, I bow to everyone's clearly superior knowledge of the intricate workings of the situation!

The only reason I brought facking Colwill up was as an example of a player who went out on loan and then went back to his parent club and played a big part from there. I genuinely wished I hadn't have bothered!

Because apparently there's NO chance in hell of that happening with Fergie. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. ZERO. In fact, if you listen VERY carefully, you can just about make out an Irish twang belting out Knees Up Mother Brown from a young lad's mouth that's full of jellied eels.

He's gone. Never to return or taken the doors of Lancing or the Amex's home dressing room ever again.

Bozza may as well lock the thread now, because there's nothing more to say other than 'Fergie to West Ham 'ere we gooooooo!'

:moo:
