Liberals have consistently, for decades, won more votes in local elections than the general election polls give them. This isn't because people are lying to the pollsters, it's because general elections and local elections are different.

That will be at least part of the reason why Reform aren't getting the votes in local elections that you might expect - because they don't yet have much in the way of local election organisation or a track record of local political success.

It will take a huge amount of effort to turn this country around. The party least likely to be able to achieve it are Labour .... after the Greens.

They've been talking about it forever.

With 15% of people taking 70% of flights. Just give everyone a flight quota, after that you pay a significant climate levy.

That would halt the crazy expansion of an industry subsidised for decades with tax breaks

With the bellends in charge for 14 years, yes it will take a huge amount of effort. 1/10 of way into the term, no quick fixes

The indicator lights are already flashing red though. Whilst there is no doubt the previous circus has its part to play in that, it appears our new overlords learnt no lessons from the predecessors idiocy.

Energy prices (for industry and domestic users) are way too high for a start, and reducing them is the cornerstone of an economic recovery. Sadly that means binning off aspects of net zero, and getting back control of our oil and gas.

Placing excessive tax and regulatory burdens are two other anchors that will drag on the economic sea floor. Labour has done both since getting in and the effects are only delivering bad news.

All of this was predictable and will be outbid sharp focus to the economy across the pond. Hard decisions need to be taken, Starmer and Reeves are just taking the easy ones that play to their fan base. Everyone else will suffer.

It will be interesting how this plays out.

In opposition, SKS was very anti Heathrow expansion.

Sadiq Khan still is.

Seems strange to look at Heathrow, Luton and Gatwick, whilst ignoring the Airports in the Noth / North West.

I'd advocate banning the import of oil, gas and coal, and only consuming what can be produced from our territorial resources*. This would give us the benefit of being able to control the methods of extraction, transport and use, provide local employment, reduce the environmental impact of transporting these commodities, and keep wealth within our own economy.

This would also allow us to properly manage our transition to less carbon intensive sources, whilst maintaining energy independence.

* we may need some flexibility if our resources don't produce enough.
