I'd like to qualify your claim about being 'for growth' is sensible. Arguably the worst aspect about GDP is it's an indiscriminate measure, and I really don't think we should be aiming for indiscriminate growth.
This is due to the climate crisis, the Sixth Mass Extinction and other environmental factors. What we should be looking at is growing certain parts of the economy (including the wealth of the poorer members) and shrinking others (carbon, material throughput, oligarchic wealth, etc).

Absolutely, there’s no benefit to most of the country if GDP goes up by 2% but it all accrues to one organisation or individual. There’s not even any certainty that the specific parts of the workforce that enabled the growth would be suitably rewarded for their efficiency.

If e.g. offshore Jim turned his petrochemical business around, he’d use the windfall to settle the ever increasing number of sports sponsorship legal battles he’s becoming embroiled in.

GDP is a piss poor measure of how a country is doing.
