Maybe one or more was an arsenal fan , either way they had no right to touch you .
Assuming they are SIA badged and had asked him to leave they do.

They can only use minimal force and only to eject someone who is causing trouble or committing a crime.
Or being asked to leave private property

Which they can only do if the person is damaging private property, causing harm to others or committing a crime.

These RPO’s seem to think they are BTP.
Not true. You can simply be asked to leave and if you don’t comply they can use light / reasonable force to do so.

I agree totally. but I guess for every one person who wants to get to the ground mega-early, the operators may think there's a whole
bunch of people galavanting around Brighton and surrounding areas free of change on the trains and buses. Whether true or
not - that would be my view of what the operators think.
At the end of the day the club must be compensating the travel companies based on agreed parameters. They, the travel companies, have to honour those.

So I was sadly assaulted after the game tonight by none other than three ' Rail Safety Officers' who took it upon themselves to remove me from a west bound train at 10:44pm as it was 'more than three hours after the game had finished'.

None of them had been at the game and none could tell me the time the game finished. I said the game finished around 19:50 - 20:00. While I was discussing the matter with them on the train ( I had entered through the barriers with others who had passed through un-accosted) they decided they would put hands on my and physically drag me off the drain and out the station.

Those on here who know me know I would not have been aggressive and was simply stating my case.

I have video footage of the conversation and their assault on me which I won't share for now due to intended legal action.

I'm upset and angry about this and will be in touch with the club and the police but for now could anyone confirm whether they faced similar mistreatment and or what time they believe the game finished tonight.

Thanks
Sorry to hear about this.

Having had several occasions where ticket inspectors have decided a seemingly valid ticket , isn't.
I know how intractable they can be.
I assume they offered you an option to accept a penalty fare to travel, which I would understand why you would object to.

The cut off period is incredibly vague, and it's completely understandable why you would expect for your matchday ticket to still be valid.
Not sure how they can categorically say that your ticket wasn't valid.

You have my sympathies.

No excuse for people using excess force where not appropriate and feel for the OP for what they have experienced

The club need to be clear with the transport providers and supporters the timings of the free travel

Easy solution would be for the club to include the timings of the free travel within each pre match briefing, so you have somewhere you could show the person questioning if it is within the timeframe to.

What I am not sure of is, is post match end time when you need to board transport by, or when you need to complete your journey.

Were you drinking in Dicks or one of the 1901 lounges?

We were on the North concourse afterwards and they closed the bar on us, but still managed to get the 21.13 from Brighton to Portslade. However, if other bars are open after the game then the simple rule should be ‘x’ minutes after the last one closes (enough to allow for transfer onto a west coast or London train too). That should be clearly communicated to both fans and rail staff and would solve the problem posed in this post.

This is a big PR problem for the Albion.
The club continually encourage fans to hang around after the game as long as possible to reduce the transport queues.
The new Fan Zone will only increase the number of fans delaying their departure.
Reading about this episode people with connecting trains out of Brighton station are going to be nervous of falling foul of time limits.

Hopefully some common sense training is available for the over zealous station security staff who may well be frustrated with their jobs, wanting to create a situation to justify their employment when a more gentle touch is required.

Some reassurance for late departing fans needed PB!

I'm amazed at the amount of people frightened to stand up for themselves. If the op has been wronged I'd want to take it as far as possible to stamp out this type of officialdom. Far too many tip their brow.

I doubt you’ll get very far with legal action sadly, assuming they were all SIA badged if you were refusing to leave the train they can use reasonable force to do so.

That said they’ve clearly not followed their own rules so I’d be taking this up with Southern, providing them all the evidence and see what they say

The club won’t care, they’ll say it’s for you to take up with Sout

It would be interesting to see if they were displaying their SIA badges, as if not that is a criminal offence!

Sounds like an unpleasant experience but if the fan pursued it I don’t think it’s worth trying to get the Club involved - I’d anticipate that their relationship with the rail company is important to them and they’ll take a line of ‘we weren’t there/ only you had the issue/we’re not in a position to question actions of the rail staff etc.

Plus there’s the added issue of potentially being deemed to then be a problematic football fan which, although the fan is undoubtedly not, they could get pulled into the ‘behaviour to & from a football match/bringing club into disrepute’ issue. It could really & seriously backfire on the fan.

If it’s not on the club’s radar then don’t put it on there. Regrettably I think it’s far safer to just move on.

This, firing off a few emails isn't going to do much harm. I work on the assumption that someone within the entities should want to know about his kind of incident so they can do better.

This might not be the case of course but getting it out there shouldnt do any harm.
