I agree they score. It's imaterial. He challenges for the ball, he's offside.

We have been extremely fortunate this season with the goal that United "scored" when they cut through us but the ball hit Zirkzee on the way into the net and this goal (not lucky in the sense that they were incorrect decisions but lucky in the sense that we deserved to concede a goal on each occasion).

Yup.. luck is on our side this season. Hopefully stays that way!
Not sure I agree that laws being upheld went our way. Downes should have been off twice before he scored and once after it. Martin could not sub him quick enough. Everyone knew he should have gone. That was as poor as the Baleba decision last week. At least that looked bad at full speed.

If those 'better referees' were brought in from abroad and started refereeing our teams week in, week out, they would be getting pelters before long. This is because the majority of referee analysis is done through a subjective prism.
The best way to assess refereeing standards is by appointment. England provided two referees for the Euro Quarter Finals, and refereed the 2023 Europa League Final and the 2016 Champions League Final, Euro 2016 final and the 2010 World Cup Final

Nope. I checked my phone and could see the Sky TV pic was crystal clear offside. Took far too long. I hate VAR.

So what was the on field decision?
I think the ref and lino after a very long discussion ruled offside, hence the ridiculously late flag. However some of my mates are convinced the flag was linked to the input of the VAR.

Before VAR though Manure and Southampton go 2-1 wrongly and possibly we lose both games. It was harsh but right on both occasions.
Also had that been a championship game with no VAR the goal wouldn’t have stood anyway as the Lino flagged offside.

Armstrong has made a near post run to attack the ball, occupying a central defender and forcing the goalkeeper to take him into account. He’s visibly miles offside from the outset. Yet under the modern law, that’s fine unless he flicks his foot at it. Ludicrous.
Second time in a row. Last week was the farcical and fairly common ‘centre forward gets a 5 yard head start in a race from the halfway line because the ball is played down the wing instead’. Apparently, not affecting play even though they tap the cross in seconds later. Fortunately, the winger was a fraction offside.
Whole thing is a mess. 4 people poring over the pictures, going through an extensive checklist while the punters have no clue what’s happening, just makes it even more annoying .

yes he did. I don't believe the ref signalled for a goal and seemed to go straight to where he thought a player was offside. The lino then I believe put his flag up to signal that refs call was offside.
After that it's whether var has enough evidence to overturn the refs call when in fact var supported it

You could see the ref and 2 linos discussing it for a while before the flag for offside was finally raised.
looked like an on-field decision to signal offside, and one they took their time over to try to get it right (probably discussing whether they thought Armstrong was active or not)
