[Albion] VAR v Southampton

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
............and that is the main point - it should have taken ten seconds. OK, maybe thirty; if you can't make up your mind then, go with the on-field decision. Incidentally, didn't the linesman (sorry, but that's still what they are to me) flag it offside - in which case the on-field decision would surely have been offside, so just agree with it.

If it was a VAR call against us though, I'd be fuming!
Because there was doubt about contact by Van Hecke. It took a while to rule that out.

Think they score if he's there or not. Quite happy about the decision and not sure it would always would go in our favor.
We have been extremely fortunate this season with the goal that United "scored" when they cut through us but the ball hit Zirkzee on the way into the net and this goal (not lucky in the sense that they were incorrect decisions but lucky in the sense that we deserved to concede a goal on each occasion).

Yup.. luck is on our side this season. Hopefully stays that way!

You’re absolutely right, and this is why it was given.

Yet dozens aren’t each week.

It’s like foul throws, you might see a couple a season given watching every Albion game, but in reality there’s a couple a match minimum the referee doesn’t give.

We got lucky tonight in that the application of the laws of the game were upheld (albeit on a judgement call).
Not sure I agree that laws being upheld went our way. Downes should have been off twice before he scored and once after it. Martin could not sub him quick enough. Everyone knew he should have gone. That was as poor as the Baleba decision last week. At least that looked bad at full speed.

This! It’s a point gained the way the game actually played out but two points dropped if you believe as I do that Downes should have been sent off

If those 'better referees' were brought in from abroad and started refereeing our teams week in, week out, they would be getting pelters before long. This is because the majority of referee analysis is done through a subjective prism.

The best way to assess refereeing standards is by appointment. England provided two referees for the Euro Quarter Finals, and refereed the 2023 Europa League Final and the 2016 Champions League Final, Euro 2016 final and the 2010 World Cup Final

First they checked the goalscorer’s position, he was just onside - very close. Then they checked Armstrong’s position - the guy on the near post - and he was a yard or two offside. They then had to decide whether his movement (a flick of his leg behind him) constituted an attempt to interfere with play while offside.

They concluded it did, and gave offside.
You saw all that from behind the goal at the Dell?

Astonishing.

Hope you're home now. The Chichester bypass can be a bugger at midnight.

The ref kept saying one more to him and then again one more and again one more and still don’t send him off, ridiculous.
