Certainly not Mayo. He scored an own goal that almost sent us out the league, has consistently struggled to maintain a regular place, is only here as no one else will have him, and cant even organise a testimonial game

He first supported the club standing in the North Stand, joined as a lad when the club was at its lowest ebb played through promotion teams and was recalled last season in the 2nd Highest division in the land. It is unknown whether anybody else wanted him as it has never been put to the test. He has a committee to organise his testimonial, which incidentally he is only entitled to through good service to the club, and all you can do is slag him off.

He may not be the best left back in the country but at least what you will get from him is 100% effort and commitment far more so than many of our players.

Get real all of the legends like Ward, Fozzie, Sully, made mistakes. The likes of Hart, Mayo, Cullip, Oatway, Chippy, Zamora should also be included for dragging the club from the depths of the bottom division against all odds !! Just as the legends of the 1970's. Ward is still the king of legends though.

Perhaps we should have a poll, top ten legends?

Perhaps we could do one on referees when we have finished with Albion legends, we could call it the poll poll.

Of course I know the history of the club - certainly the modern history. Been going since 1977, thanks.

Don't feel the need to bang on about it, that's all.

Back to the Reinelt point - can a player be a legend for a single moment? Yes, I'd say so - the test is whether that name means anything for years to come. Take an example from a different club, because it's my guess that Jimmy Glass would be regarded by Carlisle fans as a legend, and he was only on loan.

That's tough on players who might play hundreds of games for a club, but legendary status doesn't just come because you put in the time.

Its a term many youngsters use (including myself) whom we don't know the true meaning of.

Plus it is an over exadderated expression.

And,as legends should be larger than life,Fred Emney.

And who could miss out "Hove,by Jove, that's us!" Norman Wisdom?

I would say the likes of Mayo and OGH are club stalwarts, not club legends - you have to raise the bar a bit in quality/acheivement to qualify for the latter description.

In the last 10 years, Zamora and Dick Knight definitely, then Cullip and Micky Adams almost certainly would be my sole picks. Virgo - maybe if he'd been here just a bit longer than 18 months as first-teamer.....................

Oddly enough - there used to be an list of legends on the official site - but for some reason it isn't there anymore. It can still be tracked down on google.

The "official" list then at that time (2001??) is this: notice a certain R Reinelt :)

Micky Adams Harry Baldwin Ian Chapman
Tommy Cook Steve Foster Norman Gall
Eric Gill Brian Horton Jimmy Langley
Mark Lawrenson Johnny McNichol Alan Mullery
Peter O'Sullivan Robbie Reinelt Bobby Smith
Gary Stevens Des Tennant Peter Ward
Charlie Webb Dean Wilkins Glen Wilson
Ernie Wilson
