Titanic! absolute crap

I don't understand the reaction to Titanic. YES we all got heartily sick of Celine Dions warbling, and YES the media went totally overboard on it (do you see what I did there ?).
But taken on its own merits, forgetting the media overhype and the annoying single, Titanic is actually a hell of a good film. Strong characters, good performances, superb special effects, and a decent storyline taking place within the monumental tragedy of the disaster.

A lot of people seem to diss that film based on little more than the fact that it was phenomenally popular. Titanic was the biggest grossing film of all time. The two most successful films of the 90's at the box office were Titanic and Star Wars Episode I. Titanic grossed more that DOUBLE that of Star Wars (somewhere in the region of $850m I believe).

Titanics nowhere near my own personal top 10 of all time, but I quite enjoyed it, and reckon its a long way from being "absolute crap". Bit of a chick flick maybe, but to lump it in with some of the (utterly shite) films on this thread is a bit harsh.

Didn't enjoy it at all, then again I did watch Revenge of the Sith before it and that is the Best Star Wars of the collection....
Darths first breath gives me an erection.

Titanic has to be seen on a large screen. The story is shit and the acting wooden but the special effects are f***ing spectacular and as good as I've ever seen. Actually felt that I was on that sinking ship. On tv it is total dross, bit like Star Wars which is also shite unless on a big screen.
