Maty Ryan - analysis & discussion

So every other player is the best player in the world at their position? Interesting.

We have lots of young players with huge potential and already starting to deliver:
Lamptey, Maupay, Biss, Alzate, Molumby, Webster

And fantastic mid year or seasoned pros:
Dunk, Tross, Veltman, Lallana, Burn.

All of the above are better in their respective positions than Ryan.

I don’t why you’re so personally offended by this. We had this discussion about Dale and Propper. Look what’s happened to them. Buckle up.

Or are you saying we have signed Matty for life? We can’t change?

Personally offended? Do me a favor.

Dale? We have not had any discussion abut Dale. I am glad we have moved on from him. As for Davy? Look what's happened to him? He got an injury...

I am not saying we have signed Maty for life. I am saying it's dumb to say 'we can do better'. Of course we can. We can do better than Maupay too. Or Trossard. Or Webster. But is it realistic? Probably not. And is it necessary? Also probably not, at the moment.

Personally I'd take Gazzanigga from Spurs (if he's not gone elsewhere)
I think he's far better than Ryan

WTF are you on about.

If my defence of Ryan:-

'He's a good enough 11th to 17th Premier League keeper'

Puts me in the 'rabid hear no wrong' category of uberfan then everyone else must absolutely despise every waking breath Ryan takes.

It's hardly the most fulsome praise.

Difficult one. Does that mean if we had one of the other 11th to 17th club keepers I would have the same nervousness about his presence when high balls come into the box or basically every time the opposition shoots ? I can’t answer that question as I don’t watch these other keepers very often.

Your refusal to let any criticism of Ryan go without a sarcastic response?

Neither do I, I doubt I could even name 50 other goalies!!

But I think we'd probably have a different nervousness, such is life, esp with keepers, certainly until such time as Mr Bloom's stated aims become a reality.

As said I think the team can easily get there with Ryan.
I can understand those that think we can get close enough despite Ryan.

I have no time for 'he should have saved that' irrespective of the goal in question.

I'd also love to know just how many own goals and more importantly deflected 'ghost' own goals the Albion have pinged past him.

May as well keep this one up.

Ryan faced 2 shots today and they both went in. Luckily one was disallowed.

Will he ever save anything again !!!!

Not against Palace & their low shots per game ratio!

It’s an observation I have raised before. Much to the chagrin of the Matty fanboys. Shot on target = nearly always a goal.

Penalties are pot luck. Couldn't really have done much with the disallowed goal as it was so firmly struck (sometimes strikers are allowed to score great goals).
