It does work well, and comes across as very unusual. Must admit, I was gutted about missing the Albion as well, though ATEOTS ALWAYS seems to co-incide with a home game. I DJed once before, and made David a bit nervous, because I went to, er... Withdean (!) first, so always knew I was going to miss the game this time...

I know for a fact it has always coincided with a home match. Every year I think that this will be the one when we play away but it never seems to be the case. I enjoyed the lengthened weekend this time round though.

Was it on this thread that we talked about Cassette Store Day? Can't remember, but I did end up buying this little beauty at the Art is Hard all-dayer late in August.

It's a great compilation, 36 tracks and definitely more killer than filler. A lot of the bands would sit happily on a noisier indiepop bill, and some of the songs are out-and-out brilliant. Like this one by Gorgeous Bully:

This one by Best Friends:

And this one by The Black Tambourines:

Anyway, the grrrreat news is that they've now made the whole thing free to download from here - http://artishardrecords.tumblr.com/
(OK, there are a few emo-ish tunes on there, but they're generally pretty good emo-ish tunes!)

Its a miserable day out there but managed to cheer myself up with this mix. I feel pretty sorry for kids today- my daughter had only heard a couple of these songs before. She is nineteen.

That's your fault Corgi! Here's Pat Nevin's Scared To Dance playlist - always liked Pat Nevin, coolest footballer of the 80s, bar none:

Belle and Sebastian – Another Sunny Day
Camera Obscura – Lloyd, I’m Ready to Be Heartbroken
Pixies – Here Comes Your Man
New Order – Everything’s Gone Green
Colourbox – Just Give ‘em Whiskey
The Go-Betweens – Right Here
The Fall – My New House
David Holmes – I Heard Wonders
The Shop Assistants – Safety Net
Orange Juice – Felicity
Ladytron – High Rise
The Flatmates – Shimmer
Stars – Ageless Beauty
Josef K – Sorry for Laughing
The Jesus and Mary Chain – April Skies
Pink Industry – Don’t Let Go (Broudie Mix)
Animal Collective – Summertime Clothes
Pulp – Pink Glove
Peter Bjorn and John – Young Folks
Belle and Sebastian – Dirty Dream Number 2
The Concretes – Chosen One
New Order – Ceremony
Associates – Party Fears Two
The Flaming Lips – Do You Realise??
Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie – The Rattler
Camera Obscura – Swans
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – Higher than the Stars
Grinderswitch – Pickin’ the Blues

That's your fault Corgi!

Point very much taken!

Its that time of year again when Dandelion Radio collates its festive fifty ready for broadcast over Christmas. The rules are as always- submit your favourite three tracks of the year from 1st November onwards. They must have been released in 2013. It will be interesting to see on this thread what everyone has chosen. Personally I will have to have a think first as don't want to miss anything out. More information and previous charts here:

To be honest, my kids wouldn't have known any of them, but they're a bit younger than yours. I'll have to think about my three, but Sugarcrush by Joanna Gruesome and Teenager by Veronica Falls are definitely in with a shout. Maybe Lovesick by Peace as well. I can't really remember what's this year and what isn't. I'll get back to this...

Totally agree- choosing the best three tracks of the year is something that can't be done rashly.

Looking forward to checking them out when I get home, I've not heard much of the newer NZ stuff. Always nice to see a song clocking in at 2 mins 11 secs.

Trick Mammoth are doing one of the wiaiwya 7"s next year, so I went looking. There's some better recorded (and free) stuff on their Bandcamp page.

I just went and 'named my price' to download both of their releases from Bandcamp - bloody lovely stuff and thanks for the tip.

I subscribed to the first wiaiwya singles club, but I couldn't afford to this year. Next year's is a set of 7 picture discs, so may well be tempted back again.

Apropros of nothing, this is 110 seconds of absolutely bloody wonderful, surf-ish, indiepop goodness which brightened up an otherwise dreary walk home magnificently.

Most enjoyable- another two minute gem. Why is that the majority of females in such bands look so attractive? Or is it merely the fact they are in a band that does it?

No idea, but (tragically defunct) The Besties captured the hearts of pretty much every member of the audience when they played over here a few years back. Lovely people, wonderful songs, and all of them ridiculously attractive.

Well, just as I had promised myself, my new company car, has ZERO CDs cluttering it up. We'll see how long that lasts...
Hidden in the glove box is a 16GB USB stick, costing a whopping £7.00.

So far, thanks to a couple of ever-so *cough* productive days at work it contains the following:

Alex Turner - Submarine soundtrack
Arctic Monkeys - Suck it and see
Arctic Monkeys - AM
Belle and Sebastian - The Boy with the Arab Strap
Brilliant Corners - Heart on your sleeve - A decade in pop (discs 1& 2)
Elvis Costello - The First 10 Years
Felt - Ignite the seven cannons (thanks tiny)
Go-Betweens - 1978-1990
Hydroplane - various tracks (thanks Staly)
Murray's Indiepop various disc 1
Murray's Indiepop various disc 2
Murray's Indiepop various disc 3
Murray's Indiepop various disc 4 (many thanks for these Murray)
Tiny's Indiepop various (thanks you!)
June Brides - Every Conversation - The Story of the June Brides and Phil Wilson
New Order - Lost Sirens
Nouvelle Vague - Bande a Part
Phil Wilson - God Bless Jim Kennedy
Rough Trade Shops - Indiepop 09
Rough Trade Shops - Indiepop Disc 1
Rough Trade Shops - Indiepop Disc 2
Talulah Gosh - Backwash (thanks again, tiny)
The Cat's Miaow - various tracks (courtesy of Staly)
The Cure - Greatest Hits
The Field Mice - Snowball
The Field Mice - Emma's House EP (thanks AGAIN, tiny)
The Good, the Bad & the Queen - The Good, the Bad & the Queen
The Jam - That's Entertainment
The School - Loveless Unbeliever
The Shapiros - various tracks (Staly!)
The Smiths - Hatful of Hollow
The Smiths - Complete Peel Sessions
The Smiths - Best of, volume 1
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
The Stone Roses - Made of Stone
The Strokes - Room on fire
The Sundays - Blind
The Wedding Present - George Best (plus)
Beth Orton - Sugaring Season
Of Monsters and Men - my Head is an Animal
Saint Etienne - Too young to die
Royksopp - Junior
The House of Love - Fontana
Pulp - Different Class

And that's still only 3.5GB used up. Technology is ridiculous!

Plenty of space left for the rest of The Weddoes output! I notice that you have a number of rough trade compilations. They also do a best of the year collection which is usually worth a listen- not every track is a winner but at over forty songs for a tenner its worth it for the majority that are good.

No Orange Juice? Tut tut.

Give me a break! I've only had the car six days! (Actually, I've no Orange Juice on CD, so struggling there - only tape and vinyl). I've another load of CDs in my bag now, for copying across at work tomorrow.

2 more Beth Orton - Trailer Park and Central Reservation. I love Beth Orton
Morissey - greatest hits
Throwing Muses - University
And this sampler, that i found down the back of my CD rack, that was free in a magazine in a past life. Looking forward to this one (click on the picture and it opens the right way up!):
