Have you got tattoos or piercings?

Up to a point, but if you were, say, the manager of a posh restaurant, would you employ as a waiter someone with, to quote my earlier example, a spider's web tattooed on their face and 'f*** of you ****' tattooed on their forehead? They might be the best waiter in the world but I think most maitre d's would baulk at the idea. For some jobs personal appearance is important, even if your attitude is "I don't give a f*** what anybody thinks of me!"

Oh I definitely agree with that, but that isn't really going to happen often in fairness. I was talking more tattoos on forearms and stuff that are visible but not offensive and nothing like that, I don't think tattoos that are visible should stop somebody from getting a job unless in the extreme circumstances that you point out. Like I said earlier in the thread I have three tattoos including a sleeve tattoo on my left arm. I go to university and this time next year when I graduate I'll be looking to get some kind of job in journalism/the media, I don't think having tattoos should effect my chances of employment at all considering I won't be working with customers or anything along those lines. It would be a bit of a joke if somebody who is considerabely worse at what the job is than I am was to be given a job just because I have tattoos!

i have two fairly poorly done "homemade" tattoo's, which didn't turn out too badly and they're both fairly small, thINKing of getting some proper ones done, possibly incorporating the homemade ones to make them look less shit....would never get a piercing though as i don't think it'd suit me

however, if a girl has a tongue or lip piercing i'm on that with no hesitation whatsoever......also i love girls with tattoo's (if they're good ones obviously), and luckily living in brighton means my target audience is fairly large

You have tat tom? Where?

I think Andrew is just a kid hence his rather forthright and foolish assertions (I blame the parents). It doesn't take bottle to get a tattoo as most times it's just like a scratch sensation and provided to take care of them after they're done (believe it or not many tattooists recommend haemorrhoid cream !) there's no pain at all. As I said earlier anything near a bone (such and the small of the back) stings but an arm or a shoulder no problem. The problem with both piercings and tattoos is that they can be a bit habit forming and some people go over the top. That Pompey fan for example looks ridiculous and I as I've said before I find facial piercings quite repugnant. As much as anything it's a question of knowing when to draw the line (no pun intended).

The only thing to remember is that tattoos are a lot easier to get than get rid of. Very soon I will be getting one done over a tattoo on my wrist that is no longer relevant. For what it's worth my ex wife has a very large tattoo on her shoulder with my name on it, rather hard to miss especially as where she lives is rather warmer than here. This is where you need to think about what you're doing !

I have another question, will you keep the earring in when your 70?

I'm a bit concerned...i'm agreeing with BHA EX... What f***ing goon that Andrew is.

I've no tatttoo's, never had the bottle to get it done, but way back in Fawcet times i got 2 piercing in left ear, and 1 in right ear one summer. They made me take out 1 in each ear when back to school, but have kept the small silver hoop ever since.
My two little boys have made comment and reminded me recently that i have it, otherwise it never get commented on.

And Andrew, as for not getting employed by you, i'm currently running a £38,000 bathroom installation project for a couple of solicitors.
(Typical clients are QC's, lawyers, and Head of Compliance at Citibank; they see through any ridiculous stereotypes you've assumed here)

If you ever get remotely get close to having that kind of money to spunk on a bathroom, you'll no doubt be looking for a company who are fully competent in that specialist field; i wonder if your views will change because they are run by a guy with one small earring or not ?

:moo:

Not exactly appropriate calling me a "f***ing goon" considering I haven't insulted anyone in that way on this thread, or maybe even on this forum...

Journalism? Based on the above, it would be pretty hard to find anybody worse.

Don't get the 'discreet' tattoo argument- what is the point of having a tattoo if nobody can see it? Personally I don't really like tattoos, wouldn't get a club crest embedded in me as I don't need that to tell me I'm a Brighton fan.

No problem with ear rings as long as they're not over the top eg. massive flesh holes etc.

i have "bhafc" on my thigh, and i really bad drunken star on my inner forearm that went really badly......you've surely seen that? that's the one that i'm going to try and incorporate into something else as it's shit......the "bhafc" is decent so i'm fine with that, plus people can only see it if i'm naked....so it's one for the ladies ;)

I dont see what age has got to do with wearing an earring? My old dad had his ear pierced in April on his 79th birthday, It came as a bit of a shock when I spotted it but it turns out it's something he allways wanted done but never got around to it so decided to put it on his to do before he dies list. As for my earring it will stay with me until I die but then again I dont like wearing rings on my fingers.

Why not ? Or are is ageism yet another one of your prejudices ?

No but calling people 'twats' because they have a tattoo or a piercing makes that comment appropriate.

just an old almost sealed up hole in my left earlobe - I let a young lady I was smitten with in my youth (ish) pierce it with her mates stud in a pub one new year's eve using ice from her drink, then woke up with her earing in my ear and blood all over my pillow on new year's day. From memory we may well have been away at Fulham that day - Dale Jasper scored as I recall. That was all pre AIDS awareness, would seem a rather foolish thing to do nowadays.

As for tattoos, not for me thanks, as someone else said I've never been to sea nor worked as a carny nor do I follow Portsmouth.....

I had my ear pierced back in the days when it was considered rebellious and fashionable. Now I think that men with earrings just look gay.... I don't wear one anymore.

Sent from my inbred hatred of all things South London .....HD

Lots of people everywhere have them, and that's their business, not for me though - I did however think the earlier poster's comment was funny as it made me laugh. My baby brother tends to get out of his pram whenever I make any less than glowingly complimentary comments about his ever increasing body of work too, not that you have with me yet.

Yes but you do seem to be rather keen of stereotypes, not that healthy in truth. Still, as long as you're happy I suppose you'll be okay.
