In the ESU (in the kiosk outside Block E) they completely ran out of Fosters at half-time. And no Scotch pies - so just got a Steak pie & bovril and returned to the seat. Still took full duration of half-time to get served. And still bewildered as to why there are so many female toilets in there, with the mens at opposite ends of the concourse.

WSL seemed to be fine.

Half time, walked straight up to the kiosk & bought 4 pints of fosters & 2 pies (Scotch & Chicken Balti)

After the game, took a wander around the the ESL & bought 3 pints

It was the usual shambles in my opinion. I think the club need to understand the consequence of their cost-cutting. If they can't cater for people, lots of people, hours before kick off and for a few hours after, the stadium simply won't work. If we all left on the final whistle (which is what happens at EVERY other ground in the UK) the queue for the station would stretch right round the ground. If you want to ensure you completely put off newbies, fair-weathers, or occasionals from coming along (and spending their money) with regularity, then this is what you will achieve.

I guess we are going to have to sell Ulloa now we've missed out on £billions of pie sales.

I think you underestimate the significance of matchday revenue. If the club can't deliver on food and drink more people will stay at home / in town, so that also means less merchandise sold too.

A burger van has recently opened up at the Bridge Car Park which itself is £13 to park in. If you're not drinking a 2 min wait for a burger and coffee is preferable to a 15min queue at the ground, particularly if the caterers aren't going to stock what you want, or not have the card machines working for the discount.

South stand was brilliant, despite half of it being given over to Arsenal fans and segregated, they appeared to have the same number of staff on duty. 20 mins before kick off I walked straight to the till, got served the correct food I wanted and ate it.

Arsenal fan on the way home said it was the best burger he has ever eaten at a football ground.

Nothing in the WSU, nothing in the WSL. Shambles - not that I was going to pay for it anyway after Paul's generous decision to offer pie and pint vouchers for all us Superfans that went to the postponed Blackburn game

I cannot understand the sarcastic comments about the free pie and a pint for people who went to Blackburn the club were not obliged to give anything other than a ticket refund.

If that is directed at me, then your view of my post as being sarcastic couldn't be wider of the mark. I'm delighted with the offer, if only there was enough pies in stock to use it

I wrote to Paul Barber about my unsuccessful trek for a post-match Harvey's.

He wrote this back...

Hi Alan

Thanks for your note.

It was a great game - and a great occasion for everyone - on Saturday and
I thought we deserved more than we got from the game. Regardless, and as
you say, we can certainly hold our heads up very high and should do
because we more than competed with a very decent Arsenal side (and, yes,
it hurts me to say that more than most!).

With regard to catering, with every new attendance record, we are learning
more about the quantities of beer and food we need. And, yes, it's true
that our caterers are trying to improve efficiency by reducing waste
wherever they can. This is in all of our interests.

However, Saturday's shortages in some areas were not to do with lower
ordering. We sold record volumes of many items, not least beer! Beer
volumes were more than 35% higher than for the Newcastle match and over
70% higher than for the previous home match against Derby. Although lower
crowds on those occasions, the volume increases are significant and do
account for the supply challenges.

We've already met with our caterers (Monday) and we have agreed a plan
(that we will communicate more widely in the lead up to the next match) to
ensure that at least one bar in every stand remains able to serve our
supporters, regardless of how much we sell on a given day.

As I've said several times since I joined, catering at football stadia is
not as simple as it seems and we will work on making it better for
supporters it with every bit of learning we can get. It's never going to
be an exact science but there remains room for improvement.

Thanks again for your comments.

Regards, Paul
