Well they did try and massage the Holocaust figures in 1945 - Six million? Nah it was only a few thousand really.

(with apologise to Simster for hijacking his thread) :)

:lolol: Don't mention the war.

And stop reminding them they have so many more people than us. Historically, problems arise.

To be fair, whatever you say about their population and their pricing, for so many clubs to be averaging that many is a fantastic effort.

Hertha Berlin had 75k at home the other week and Schalke 60k

Yes but mate, they have bigger stadia, it's like all these clubs calling us plastic because we only got 7-8k crowds in a 7-8k stadium ... where do we fit the other 13k?

Barclays Premier League - Unofficial Average Attendance: 34,437

Is their football well supported further down the pyramid though, or is it simply that a large population concentrates its support on 20-30 teams.

Surely, nowhere in Europe can match the levels of support witnessed in England across 5 divisions?

Germany does have around 25 million more people than England though and football is still reasonably priced in comparison.

Pretty much 30 million more people living in Germany (just googled it)

Just googles it and the average attendance for second division matches is 14.743 ranging from an impressive 45,761 to 4140 people. I'd say they were little bit behind our Championship

If you recall, I said 17,000 was more than their team deserves. What bit of this are you arguing? If it's a point lost on me then it's a point lost on 90% of football fans. How many clubs don't see their support dwindle as they slump down the league?

I've clearly got to find something better to do, but I've been thinking about the Bradford team I saw earlier in the season. They had Craig Fagan playing up front, who was playing for Hull in the Premier League a couple of years ago. He should be tearing that league apart, but he doesn't seem bothered. They had Matt Duke in goal, who was also in that Hull team (well, he played once or twice) and they had Michael Flynn in the midfield who was a handy player against us in League 1. The quality of their team is nowhere near the sum of all its parts. Their support isn't in question, for support they are probably the biggest club in the division. Swindon might argue with that, but they've been massively helped by cheap tickets, and a good team this season. Their season tickets are going up £91 next season (promotion or no promotion) so that will affect their numbers.

I believe that Bradford still have more STH's than Palace this season and have done for the last 3 or 4 seasons.

The average age of the stadia in the EPL is 75 years, with a range of 130 years (Emirates 6, Stamford Bridge 136).

The average age of the stadia in the Bundesliga is 40 years, with a range of 88 years (Coface Arena 1, Weserstadion 89).

Make of that what you will. And yes, I have too much time on my hands.
German stadia allow standing, so that will boost attendances, and like people have mentioned - Germany has a much larger population than England, football is much more reasonably priced, and the lower league teams aren't as well supported.

My brain hurts now. I think Bradford'a support is impressive. So does Simster. So do you.

Why are we debating this again?

I love this table. WHEN we are in the Premier League averaging 28,000+ (every chance of this inside 3 years or so) we will be getting the 11th best crowds in it and will only be behind a top ten of the biggest clubs in the country...

We have come an awfully long way.

That's something I was looking at recently, but it depends on how other teams move around too. For example, if the Premier League 'lose' QPR, Wigan and Blackburn but gain West Ham, Southampton and us then we'll be 2 spots further down.

But, yes, your point is still valid - it's amazing how far we've come and the journey is far from over.

I have some experience of German football, as in nearly every other country throughout the world their crowds fall away drastically below their top divisions.

I am sure Bundesliga 2 has a few decent crowds then it becomes regionalised and the crowds become quite poor.

Undoubtedly only England can boast such large crowds below the top 2 divisions, it's unique.

We do seem to have 5 'professional' leagues, whereas Germany and others fizzle out outside the top 2 leagues and maybe a couple of the larger clubs within their regional structure.

There really isnt anything comparable to the English heritage further down the leagues.

The one shame about the Bradford thing is that, according to the FSA, they didn't afford the away fans the same reduction in ticket prices as the home support. So you travel further, then pay more to watch the same game from often the worst part of the stadium.

Pity, because the figure shows the support is still there for clubs even at the arse end of League 2, if the pricing's right - the League should force clubs who offer substantial discounts to home games to make the same offer to the away support on that day.

Remember when Forest did it for a Tuesday game up there? £5 to get in, every seat in the ground taken, including in our section, cracking atmosphere, even the players responded with a corker of a game.
