Quick round of applause to the collective decency of NSC at this point is in order    Nobody's risen to the bait of Gunter's feeble Daily Mail style thread. Apart from of course the pathetic troll that is Looney. Twat :salute:

According to my three great aunts (all now long dead), nursing became a profession once the myth of Florence Nightingale ("nursing as a form of domestic service") was dumped - during the First World War.

All three of them were professional nurses, trained in the early 1920s, dedicated and successful workers who each rose to the position of hospital maton.

Oh, I almost forgot. They not only considered themselves to be professionals, they also called themselves feminists and socialists. But I doubt if any of them would be too impressed by Blair (who looney seems to be blaming for the "professionalisation" of nursing).

Just let me shoot down this old hat leftist drivel, goods capital etc do not require health care, food, somewhere to live, work etc.

You seem to miss the point that when people of working age come to the UK who have already been raised, educated and vaccinated somewhere else, at no cost to the UK tax payer, they represent a huge bonus for the economy. You get a ready to go (and pay taxes) worker without any of the set up cost related to raising children. It's their original country that is lossing out. That's why I'm over here, just to screw you out of your taxes ;)

1 when feminists turned Nursing into a proffesion it sythed away 70% of potential recruits.

2 The NHS, or the Government would be forced to make better use of Existing resources. ie the 1.5 million unemployed in this country or getting to grips with point 1 I made.
Recruitment shortages are more acute in teaching and the gov invented class room assistants. Physisian heel thyself.

So let me get this straight, you want to make up the short-fall in nurses by hiring a bunch of unqualified people just because they are English? Either you really don't rate the nursing profession at all or you'd rather risk your own health than be touched by a dirty foreigner.

Quality post US Seagull. Shouldn't waste your breathe tho. Looney's got that mix of arrogance and ignorance rarely seen outside of Slough. I blame the aircraft emissions over Heathrow, the lead in petrol and, oh, yeah, the gene pool :lolol:

Its only in resent years that you needed a degree to become a nurse, are you saying you need a degree to empty a bedpan and make a bed? Thats a pretty snobbish attitude.

You may consider foreigners dirty I dont.
You also seem to miss the point of my arguement, its about making the best use of our resources/people of whatever colour rather than sucking all the talent out the third world. Saw a programme that reconned the phillipenes health service would collapse in five years if the drain on health workers continued at its present rate.

I happen to think if the nursing profession was split with the more basic tasks taken by the less qualified it would.

1 Help foreign and poor countries health service retain staff.

2 Help us recruit staff.

3 Increase employment

4 Be more efficiant and the money saved could be plowed back in or whatever the gov wished to do with it.

Whats racist or crazy about that?

Arrogance and Ignorance is someoneone that beleives the NHS just needs more money. Its problems are more fundamental and far reaching than that.

The nursing profession has always been split. They used to be called SRN and SEN

To be an SRN you needed 5 O' levels (which according to El Pres is the equivalent of a degree nowadays) and the SEN was unqualified and did the mundane jobs

There were also nursing auxillaries.

I'm not up to date with what they call the grades nowadays but dover97 (who is male) will no doubt enlighten me.

that sounds a lot better than the "all must have prizes"/degree culture at the moment.

So you're saying that nurses do nothing more for the medical profession that empty bedpans and make beds! And you call me snobbish! If I was a nurse I'd be fuming right now. Nurses are the front line in the hospital, they see and care for the patients much more than the doctors do and they need skills beyond "emptying bedpans and making beds" in order to provide decent care. Do you really think an unskilled person with no medical knowledge will be able to assess whether a patient is in distress and needs immediate attention? I happen to think nurses are bloody fantastic and I think you do them a great disservice by relegating them to some kind of glorified cleaner / maid.

You seem to miss that I already made that point, probably couldn't see from under your blinkers. Besides, wouldn't that be the free-market economics that you seem to love so much? Shouldn't people be able to move to where the jobs pay the most? I guess again it only applies to goods and services, not people.

Thanks :)

Since he was so worried about over-population, perhaps he'd be kind enough to vow not to reproduce and pollute the gene pool any more.

Get a f***ing clue.................

So you're saying that nurses do nothing more for the medical profession that empty bedpans and make beds! And you call me snobbish! If I was a nurse I'd be fuming right now

Thats not what I said learn to read!!!!

Do you really think an unskilled person with no medical knowledge will be able to assess whether a patient is in distress and needs immediate attention

Parents of all creeds look after sick children.

You seem to miss that I already made that point, probably couldn't see from under your blinkers. Besides, wouldn't that be the free-market economics that you seem to love so much? .

Quick lesson in free market economics. When there is a shortage of labour real wages rise to encourage more people into that profession. The problem in the NHS is one of government failure.

Shouldn't people be able to move to where the jobs pay the most? I guess again it only applies to goods and services, not people

It depends, when you face acute shortage of capacity, say housing the pressure should be on better use of resources. either restructure NHS, improve infrastructure or a combination.

People do move to were the moneys good and thats another good reason for sensibly managed immigration.

UK 800 miles long, English speakers 4 billion.
