I rarely go to Withdean myself for a number of reasons now.

I find that astonishing that somebody who has given so much effort, energy and time to all things Albionshould reach the point where they do not wish to go to watch their team at home. Obviously this is an attitude that is prevelant amongt many now to account for our drop in aattendances.

I am not well versed in financial amatters like those facing BHA but at he weekend was talking with somebody who is, as he works for a merchant bank. He is of the opinion that with the world wide credit squeeze we will find it very difficult and virtually impossible to secure a mortgage to pay for the new stadium without the guarantee of a very rich man, who is in the position to pay for the building of the stadium himself if needed.

Interesting.

The club themselves say that Price Waterhouse Coopers approve of their financial model for funding, and 'some' (i.e. more than one) financial institutions are approaching the club (rather than the club approaching them) with a view to financing the project.

Surely the only questions people need answering are:

- Who is going to build it?

- When will the building start?

- When will it be ready to move into?

- Who is paying for it?

Gauranteed none of those question have definitive answers tonight.

The second question is the most important. If diggers had moved in today, there would be another 1000 people on the gate tonight.

I think you may have put two and two together and come up with eleventy here, old chap.

Sorry you have lost me there.

If I want to go to watch BHA there is nothing and nobody that would stop me perhaps I am different.

Before arranging any family gatherings i.e weddings etc my family always ask me who Brighton are playing that day in order that I may attend. Even my holidays are booked around not missing games at home.

Perhaps I am a sad case but that is the way I am.

I did say that he is of the opinion and that it was only an opinion and not a stated fact so we shall have to wait and see what MP has to say tonight if the same question or opinion is put to him by somebody from the floor.

I'm just saying that, without knowing ALL the circumstances around someone's lack of attendance at Withdean, you cannot assume that they are staying away because their support for the team has lapsed.

It's most impressive how you've managed to re-organise your life around home games but personally, I have a life away from football and, again personally, I find it helps me to keep a healthier perspective on things!

Then I would suggest your friend is in the wrong line of business, because that's the biggest load of scrare-mongering crap I've heard since the whole question of financing this project came up again.

Firstly, the credit squeeze that is existance does not mean that all companies wanting to borrow money are suddenly not going to get it. The worst case scenario is that it may cost more to borrow it.

Secondly, the credit squeeze in all it's formats it largely mortgage borrowing for the HOUSING sector, and applies to individuals who present large risks.

An indemnity of a rich man will not be necessary because the land and structure within it provide the indemnity required. And as TLO quite right says, there are plenty of institutions lined up that specialise in this sort of lending.

Would your family do the same if they were arranging a funeral?

Sad doesn't even begin to cover it

My point is that ROSM has given such a tremendous amount to BHA that even taking into account that he has young family commitments, unlike me whose children have all fled the nest, It is most suprising that he should not devoute the time to attend matches. I am not critisizing him just passing an observation that if somebody like him doesnt attend matches it doesn't auger well for the casual supporters, and could possibly account for our drastic drop in attendances.

I also have a life outside football , but that is easy to fit around football due to the fixtures released in the summer

Given the choice of 2 dates yes they would. I am in the fortunate position that being retired I am able to go where I want, when I want, how I want so with holidays etc it matters not that I go on any specific day of the week or for any specific time. e.g I am hoping to take my old camper van to France for 10 days and will go on the Sunday after the Port Vale game and come back before the next home game.

Far from being in the wrong job he has been very succesful , earning a stack of money and is intent on semi retiring on his 40th birthday. So he is not an idiot and this was only his opinion on the general issue of borrowing approx £40m, if that is the figure needed after grants etc.

I am sure that this same concern has been voiced more than once by many supporters better voiced in the finance world than me.

Just far enough away from LDC
Just to clarify I did say one of the reasons. But the telling thing is that despite having a season ticket I still choose not to rearrange my life to go to games even when I have the chance to. I still support the club but dont routinely go to Withdean (I've missed more home games than I've seen this season).

But the irony is that those who complain most about a lack of atmosphere are in many cases the ones who do most to prevent one. The wish to criticise the team rather than support it, the singing section that gets outsung by the family stand (and who tend to make everything an 'in joke'), those who spends games baiting the stewards, who ignore reasonable requests to sit down by stewards (it isn't their fault the ground licensing rules are the way they are), the interminable consipracy theories about every one and every thing, the elevation of stupidity as a national pastime in postmatch comments. This thread is a microcosm of that. Any attempt at reasoned argument is met by the usual insults and the other key protaganists leaping to someones defence 'because they are allowed an opinion'. Sadly in my book when their arguement is so flawed in fact, then they must expect to be challenged. easy 10, Everest, TLO, BG, LB, myself have all made requests and counetr arguments that have gone ignored.

I look forward to the day I can take my son to games regularly and sit in the family stand with those who seem to enjoy football.
