It is blindingly obvious that if suddenly a much higher proportion of the population are getting much better results (ie loads of A grades), than either a) everyone has got much brighter or b) the exams are easier. It isn't a).

No. I disagree. Better results are morelikely to indicate that the teachers are getting better at training their students to take the exams (a very different matter to actually knowing the subject). Exams are a game. Teachers (and students) are learning how to play the game more with every year that passes.

The reason exams are 'easier' or, maybe, in a preferable format compared to when we took ours is down to their modular structure and the actual subjects being taken (i.e. social sciences).

Another thing to remember is that General Studies is not counted by a lot of institutions.

The exams are certainly DIFFERENT than they were in the 'olden days'.

I took my A Levels in 1977 and they were f***ing horrendous.

My son has just got the result of his A Level History which he took a year early, as well as the AS levels he has been doing. I see how hard he works during the week and can't believe that he needs to work any less than I did.

The trouble is, too many people are convinced that the whole country is in moral decline and it is convenient to jump on the badwagon of 'exams are too EASY'.

I take my hat off to anyone who has got their results - well done evryone

:clap2: :clap2:

my youngest's boyfried got a BDE and is seriously f***ed off

Looking at Bex's AS papers which she averaged D's, ( and she is a bright kid) I take issue with those self rightous wankers who think exams are getting easier.

Its only easy if you know the answer!!!

Like I said, you won't hear anything sensible from those involved.

I took my A-Levels about 10 years ago. I thought they were f***ing hard! Especially after the piss poor preparation that GCSEs are!

They were having the same headlines in the papers then too!

Managed to go from BBC to BCC. Absolutely gutted, didn't get in to where I applied. Really tried this year as well

On the flip side – I missed out on my original choice by one grade and took a year out and reapplied the following year. I didn’t even have an interview and they liked the look of me – voluntary work in Ecuador etc. and I ended up on a better course at a different University.

Fantastic effort on your results anyway. No need to feel disappointment.

Geography - U - Going to appeal though. There is no way I did that badly.
Computing - U - As expected
Law - E - Worse than expected, but its a pass.
History - E - Much worse than expected.

Will be continuing with Geography despite failing, only dropping computing.

I knew I was going to do badly....But a U in geography? ? ? ? ? ? ?

I put barely any effort in, EXCEPT in Geography, where I DID do the homework, and only missed ONE lesson.

That is just not possible.

I have heard of people successfully appealing etc, the teacher had made a mistake on their coursework, which lowered the grade.

Wasn't Geog the one you passed early or something?

Photography - C (and I got an A in my exam, get in)
Media - E (C/w C but my exam was U and I am really disapointed because I felt I never done that bad. Resitting it.)
Geography - U (Couldn't give a toss)
BTEC Digital Media - Won't know until next year but I am distinction/merit borderline.
