To see Mark Hughes' attitude to the competition. While it may be their only realistic chance of silverware, they may still prefer to remain in Europe and in touch with European places in the Prem. than reaching the third round of the Carling Cup.

Thats exactly what i'm trying to say.He won't have any of it though.

Ah right, sorry, I totally missed your point for a minute re Blackburn. Well as BoF has posted, they played a strong line-up in their CC games under Hughes. I really don't think "fixture pile-ups" come into play in SEPTEMBER. They know this is their big chance of silverware, and they won't want to risk losing it at Brighton all for the sake of giving a few players a night off. I would imagine their best couple of players to be left out (maybe Elano and Richards), but the rest will be first-team. What they will definitely not do is put out 11 unknowns.

I agree with you. However, I think we all have rose tinted spectacles on after our rip roaring start to the season and seriously see ourselves as potential giant killers. From their point of view they will see youngsters plus a few older heads as enough to see us off.

This might be a good draw for us, by the time we play them they may have sold several of their best players, Mark Hughes might have walked and their Chairman could be either banged up or deported.

Last season, they played twice against lower league opposition in this competition (Bristol City and Norwich). These were their starting line-ups:

Manchester City:
Hart, Logan, Corluka, Onuoha, Ball, Ireland, Sun, Fernandes, Geovanni (Dabo 83), Mpenza, Bianchi (Dickov 89).

City:Hart, Logan, Dunne, Onuoha, Ball, Sun, Fernandes (Etuhu 67), Ireland, Geovanni (Evans 79), Bianchi, Samaras.

Looks pretty "first-team" to me:thumbsup:

to be fair, that is by no means their strongest team in either line up

I agree with the Badger that City will field a strong team, though can't see what relevance the team Eriksson chose to put out, has.

To be honest, I don't expect us to win whatever team they put out but we just need to savour the visit of a 'glamour' club and hope that this gives the team a boost up until we play and that we do ourselves credit in the game, the same as we did against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

I am scratching my head and can't remember us playing a team from the top division in a competitive game at Withdean...have we?

Sorry, but on what planet do you think someone who may only have gone to the Barnet game for their first ever BHA match (it is a possibility) should get priority over people who have stumped up for a ST. There will always be complaints about allocations but STH's come first as, in the case of many of us, we stump up our money before the end of the previous season, even if the club have faced relegation as they have done several times in the last 8 years.

I hold my hand up as I didn't go last night but have been to plenty of 1st round matches before.

To be fair there's no reason why all STHs and everyone who went to the Barnet game couldn't go. If we've got 4 thousand season ticket holders there's still another 4 thousand odd tickets for Albion fans..
