The corner quietly rusting
If Bobby has gone to West Ham as a part exchange then yes they must state to the league how much this is considered to be worth.

If the valuation is not above 1.5m though we will get nothing, if its above 1.5m then we must be paid our cut of that valuation.

BOBBY: WHY I SIGNED

Bobby Zamora is delighted to have joined the club he watched as a boy - and he insists that he can prove himself to be a top striker.

"I am delighted to have come to the club that I supported and used to come to see as a kid," he says.

"I have a lot of friends here and I have always kept an eye on results," he says.

"I used to come and watch Frank McAvennie and Tony Cottee when TC was the main man at the time; I don't know if I can emulate those two but I will give it a bash!"

His priority, though, is, if not to emulate Jermain Defoe, at least cushion the effect of his loss.

"Obviously Jermain is an absolute legend down here and a quality striker that I have been playing with in the England U21s - and have known for years," he says.

In fact, in a whirlwind 24 hours, he even crossed Jermain's path as he - and £7m - went the other way.

"I saw him today and wished him all the best, and he did likewise; I speak to him all the time - and no doubt will in the next day or two," he says.

"I have got a lot to live up to and I will give 110% all the time.

"I didn't get too much of an opportunity at Tottenham but I will give my all here; I didn't think I would be starting at Spurs even when Freddi Kanoute went to the African Nations' Cup though in the back of my mind I'd have hoped to.

"There are a lot of good strikers at Spurs and one or two are going to have to be on the bench and I don't know if they are going to be able to take it - but that is part of football.

"I am sure I have learned a few things at Tottenham, and when I was at Brighton I was up against it - but obviously West Ham is a strong team pushing for promotion."

Bobby's sole goal, ironically, this season, was against West Ham, and he admits to having mixed feelings about it.

"I was pleased to get my first goal but to be honest I was a bit gutted - and a lot of my friends let me know where they stood."

Bobby is confident that West Ham can rise to the promotion places and he adds:

"The lads have really started to pick up in the last couple of weeks and the new lads have been fitting in straight away and hopefully I can continue that.

"I know quite a few of the lads; I used to room with Michael Carrick with the England U21s, for instance.

"It is going to be tough getting in the side but I am going to work hard."

Emotions aside, was it a difficult move, career-wise?

"I was up late last night with my agent and my dad talking away, and it took a bit of time - but I am pleased," he says.

"I have something to prove all the time as all players do - but I will prove a few people wrong.

"But I am disappointed that I wasn't given the opportunity at Spurs; I only had five starts this season with five minutes here and there when we were losing.

"Glenn Hoddle has gone and David Pleat has come in and maybe your face doesn't fit and it is one of those things - part of football.

"But if the gaffer here gives me a chance hopefully I will show what I can do - and I can guarantee West Ham will be back in the Premiership this season or next."

I can't see him getting into the starting line up to be honest, they have David Connolly and Marlon Harewood who are both in double figures this season... I guess he'll have to fight it out for a spot on the bench with on loan Liverpool striker and son of Ian, Neil Mellor.

personally think they will pair zamora and harewood as front 2 with connolly on bench.

i was gutted that we only got £1.5m (£900 thou after bristols cut)
1. because he was worth a lot more
2. we had lost a crucial, classy part of the team
3. i had told all my mates up here how good he was, and he was worth much more.
4. i always told my spurs supporting mate, they had a bargain and he would come good for them.
??? ??? ??? ???

now we dont look like getting any more money and i have been proved wrong about his ability. (for now at least)

cannot believe spurs payed 7m and bobby for services of defoe.
and i do think bobby could become a better player than defoe. if his managers have the confidence in him. his alround play is better than defoes if not his finishing.
i think he will surprise a few people especially pleat. and i also think whu have landed a brilliant deal with a quality bit of business.
good luck bobby, prove your doubters that you are a class act.
i thought spurs was a good move for bz until they bought kanoute, im sure this will be a better move for him.

On NSC for over two decades...
Outstanding bit of business for West Ham, £7million for a player who is hardly ever on the pitch, plus a proven goalscorer to boot. They must be laughing really hard up at Upton Park right now.

I thought he said he was a Spurs fan when he joined them?????

That's what the press said he had said.

We didn't believe it either.

When are we gonna get an even break with this sell-on business...

John Robinson and his loyalty to Charlton...
No sell-on for Dean Saunders...
Etc...

It would have been best for him to go there in the 1st place. Chance to improve in a good team at Div 1 level and then go up to the Premiership with them. He has a good chance at the top level, if he can stay injury free. Just not quite good enough....yet.

Good luck to him, just unfortunate he's gonna be helping that wanker Pardew achieve a dream.

Except West Ham would never have been able to afford to buy him straight from us.

But if he desperately wanted to go (which he would have done, as a boyhood fan) they would have had us over a barrel. We could have ended up accepting about £500,000.

Completely agree. He should have gone there in the summer and got first team action.

Good move for Bobby. I don't expect that we'll get anything, but I'm pleased for him.

I really think Bobby will score goals for them this season. He is better than Connelly and Harewood is a good 1st div striker but nothing more.
Zamora scored 14 goals for us last season, inclufing a few penalties. The second striker in a 'good' team 3-8th place should get 12-18 goals with the main striker getting 25.
14 in a team that got relegated and who was out injured for a couple of months is a bloody good effort, dont forget that.
I cant find how many goals we scored last year but 14 is not bad for a team going down.

Bobby WILL score goals for West Ham this season. He might not be first choice this or even next, but he will prove to be an excellent signing. Bobby has not been a flop, he just hasnt been given the time. Look at Ormeroyd at Southampton. Bobby is 5 times the player he is but Southampton have done the right thing. Given him time, and developed him over a couple of years and now plays regulary and scores goals. spurs couldnt afford that luxury.

No one can say Bobby is a failure.
Question is, now I have to watch out for WHU and hoe they win their games now.:nono:

I don't think he is necessarily better than Harewood and Connolly, both of whom are proven at that level; and like Zamora, not proven in the Premiership.

West Ham also have Neil Mellor, who is rated very highly at Liverpool.

Why has everyone got such a downer on Zamora since he left? He never had a chance to prove himself as Spurs, he will be the best striker at West Ham and will prove a lot of doubters wrong. When West Ham get promoted, he will prove he can score goals in the Premiership.
