Now you are starting to make yourself look a little bit silly, why are you talking about causing damage ? That doesn't even come into it, do you not think if one of the bikes had been damaged it would have been mentioned ?
I really am surprised by your attitude SB as i've always thought you to have been one of the more intelligent and reasonable posters on here, but you really do seem to have the bit between the teeth on this one and now you're going of on a tangent with no real reason to do so.

I suspect it's a point of view thing. As a cyclist, I'm always aware of the fact I'm a very vulnerable road user. I constantly see both cyclists and motorists behave in a very dangerous fashion, endangering both themselves and other road users. Anything that encourages or 'normalises' dangerous driving, and therefore puts me at more risk, gets my back up.

I should say I entirely empathise with drivers that get annoyed with cyclists. A significant minority are complete burkes and very dangerous. However, it works both ways, and drivers should be as considerate and sensible as they expect cyclists to be.

However equally as a road user and a pedestrian I would say the majority of cyclists I encounter in my travels do NOT adhere to the most basic rules of the road. I have seen them riding the wrong way down one way streets, riding on the wrong side of the road, jumping red lights, having no lights on their bike at 4 in the morning and a variety of other idiotic things - along with my absolute personal favourite which is cycling on the pavement and using pedestrian crossings. THIS is why motorists get pissed off with cyclists, and why although as stated above Martin was a twat, I can see where he's coming from.

My personal recommendation to anyone offended by said antic is to sneak up behind him in public, yell twat very loudly in his ear and run off. A totally childish yet appropriate response to the Mail on Sunday motoring correspondent.

Tell you what if it is so funny how about you let someone throw you in to a bush at twenty miles an hour (this is how fast a group of cyclists is likely to be moving). It may not be so funny then. It would hurt a lot, if they hit the tarmac it is likely to lead to broken collar bones, at the very least a large amount of road rash. No where in Martin's article does it say he stopped to check no one was injured so how do you know no one was hurt?

I cycled the B road route from London to Brighton two weeks ago and noticed that while on the country lanes and roads despite a fair bit of traffic the drivers were very courteous and gave me plenty of thrift but anytime I went through a town, especially arriving in Brighton their attitudes change and they suddenly hate you.

I've given this a great deal of reflective thought and have decided I'm still 100% right.
But I will add a few caviates (sp).
When I find it, I'll post the youtube clip of George Hincapie falling sideways down a ditch, because he has bonked (run out of all energy), that's funny.
Had the cyclists been right across the road, on pavement etc, then they 'would have had it coming'.
But this comes across as an innocent group of cyclists on the road, being targeted, intentionally by a man in a machine, capable of doing serious damage.
