Says a man who claimed Fish and Chips were Danish.

The Belgiuns claim chips or frites as he well knows and this is another example of him re-writing his own history on food now as well as religious and political persecutions.

This is a lively debate that I have missed.

I did not learn anything about Rosa Parks, Mandela or Luther King (unless my memory is failing me) at school. It was a very religious private school with a distinct lack of ethnic minorities, apart from some very rich Russians and Cantonese (and a The Prince of Ghana). What I do know about the three aformentioned people is learned off my own back. I would not say my historical teaching gave me a well rounded overview of the world. I learned about British history, mainly, and certainly felt I missed out on the historical values of the rest of the world.

Quite appropriate, I would say, when America has just elected a mixed race President, when he would have been a real outsider only 40 years ago.

I do not see the problem of the selected persons who changed the world the most. The civil rights movement, end of the apartheid etc. is possibly the largest event in the history of man. No harm in learning about that, shirley?

Ps Have we heard that lazy term 'PC gone mad'? An appropriate term for ignoramuses, bigots and the ill-educated, in this instance.

Calling people who disagree with your opinion on this as being the ''PC gone mad'' brigade looneys is akin to me calling you a sandal wearing, yogurt knitting, corduroy trouser wearing, lefty, do gooder.

Well are you ?

Did you say it was PC gone mad? I can't be bothered to run over the whole thread again.

thanks to the wanton destuction and subsequent non-restructuring of my kitchen, I feel , all I have left is food history

without wishing to bring this one back to its tedious original point about certain people in the teaching profession in SE London (who contrary to people unaware of the ins and outs of this telling me they do not have an agenda, these teachers having told me myself they are very keen to promote one, but that can be dismissed as my bigoted interpretation by some on here) choosing what they perceive to be ethnically more relevant choices for certain subjects of study, there is no problem from my end discussing these people who are undoubtedly influential on the modern western world. What is a problem is the selectivity of this and the political slant put on it for children.

An assembly extolling the virtues of Barack Obama for children aged 4 and up, PRIOR to him being elected? The point being, perhaps, most of you kids are black and so is he. Perhaps. Perhaps my paranoia. Funny but I do not remember any assemblies in 1979 discussing the magnitude of Britain electing a female prime minister. Different era perhaps, or different political hue that did not suit. Who knows.

Typical, gets a private top-end education but can't even remember his argument

I don't know enough about the curriculum to suggest whether there is an agenda or not. What if there is? Black male pupils are notoriously difficult to teach and there are stats/figures that show they fail badly or do not partake in the the schooling 'tradition'. Maybe, just maybe, this will bring them back into the game or at least give the black pupils something to relate to?

Is it a coincidence that many of the fatalities and gang wars in London are black on black? Is this linked to a poor education? Perhaps the curriculum (the one I know nothing of) is aimed to improve the chances of the black community of fulfilling a life beyond crime? We shall have to wait and see.

Role models are crucial and maybe we need to steer the black pupils away from 50 Cent, Rio Ferdinand and Snoop, but towards Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama.

Funnily enough a fair number of Rio's family are at the school.

I agree, up to a certain point but you "steer" anyone towards Barack Obama and they are going to end up looking like the business end of a pepperpot
