My Grandparents, Great Uncles and some Great Aunts put their own lives on the line to fight for the life and rights we have enjoyed and continue to enjoy 80 years later. We should respect and be grateful for what they did and so if it came to it then yes I would do the same as they did to protect us.

It's very easy to answer from the comfort of your keyboard. I honestly think our relatives were built differently.

My granddad was killed in WW2. My late dad read me an extract from one of the survivors of the submarine. The survivor recalls asking the commander (my granddad) 'should we swim' to which he replied "as you wish" my Dad explained he went down with the submarine. I asked if he was too injured to swim and my dad explained that as commander he was expected to stay as most of the men were not accounted for. It will always stay with me, a 36 year old man with a young wife and child back home fullfiling his duty to the very end.

Not if I could help it, to be honest - and anyway I'm too old now to be likely to be called upon anyway - but if we were invaded? Not join up, maybe (they wouldn't have an old codger like me anyway) - but any sort of local militia, with the aim to just kill one or to of the bastards, to do 'our bit' - yes I think I would. I certainly bloody hope I would!

I'm 66 and have incurable cancer so I've had to face up to the idea of dying. It's become very clear to me that dying is better than living as the type of person that I don't want to be. Not sure how much use I'd be but I couldn't run away.
