I remember the Tottenham game, I must of been 12'sh and it was I think the first season in Div 1.

There was always a tension and skirmishes in most games but the main London Clubs especially from what I recall.

Tottenham did initially take the North Stand, but I remember looking in awe as a group of what seemed older men came in singing 'we are the Bosun' and basically emptied the Tottenham from that area, I ended up at the side of the pitch.

My Wife who attended a Brighton Millwall game when she was about 13yrs, got on the train to Hove only to find it full of Millwall, one 'tough guy' went up to her and told her to give him her scarf !!!

She was so scared she said NO...and the lad walked off in a huff !!!

I have to say I don't recall Arsenal 'taking' the North Stand although there WAS trouble. For me the worst two home games were Spurs and West Ham. Spurs the year we didn't go up where they came down in numbers the night before. They DID take the North Stand and quite easily too. The trouble went on all through the match and at one stage the ref took the players off. We did win 3-1 though

I think the West Ham game may have been next season but they gave us a good pasting as well, in fact I think I might have had the dubious privilge of being thumped by Cas Pennant! Palace were nothing in comparsion.

They tried to take the south stand but got a good pasting and were chased out i seem to remember ...the old 'bosun lot i thinkl

At the spurs game we ended up on top of the cafe/ burger bar adjacent to the west stand. the spurs lot came round to "have a go " after Paul Clark scored, our only option was to fight back & I remember booting ( god bless DM's) some poor bastard in the face as he tried to climb up to us , needless to say we were thrown out - via the west stand.
It was on that roof I met my mate who I still go to games with now.

The only really bad trouble I have seen was at Northampton for a cup game in late 87, kicked off massively in town before the game, despite the police herding Albion fans into busses at the railway station...I understand that they went off to spend lunch on an industrial estate, nice...I managed to get past the local constabulary by telling them that I was in town to go shopping and had absolutely no interest in football. My only memory of the game was seeing Kevin Bremmner hit a shot from some way outside the box, this was caught by a fierce wind and virtually balooned back from whence it came...odd game, rough day, good result.

...oh, had almost forgotten, was punched by a Huddersfield fan at an away game at their old ground...thought that I was in line for a serious kicking but managed to talk my way out of it.

I ended up being slung against the side of the security fan near the Radio Brighton box. The roof fight was excellant, I think thats what I was watching at the time.

and do you remember a hoofed clearance smashing the radio Brighton box window and covering Millard? with glass?

Going back to the midweek Arsenal match - their mainly black donkey jacketed fans were a giveaway to everyone in the North Stand except the police. It was impossible to blend in even wearing a donkey jacket. Just before kick off an Arsenal chant started...just as the Bosun and Lamb & Flag boys entered the North Stand. Arsenal fans needed police protection for the rest of the match!!!!

I got elbowed on the nose by a Brighton fan having a swing at a Pompey fan that had infiltrated the North Stand. FA Cup I think and we won 1-0 thanks to Matty Edwards. My friends Dad (6'6" ex-ice hockey player) lifted the Pompey fan out and handed him over to the police. It was quite scary, I was only 11 at the time.

I was stewarding the North Stand that day. It kicked off in town after that one.

The worst I saw was Wolves & Brighton clashing up Queens Road in the early 90's. Pretty much the bit where the club shop is now. Thatwas carnage for that seemed like ages but was really only about 3 or 4 mins.

I remember the atmosphere being (relatively) electric.

"Play up Pompey. Pompey play up"

"f*** off Pompey. Pompey f*** off"

"Seaweed! Seaweed!"

I also remember the 5-3 defeat to Cardiff at the Goldstone being pretty nasty. A fair few scuffles before, during and after.

All pretty tame compared to the 80s shenanigans.

The worst trouble i think ive ever seen at a Brighton match was at West Ham, In our end there was a bloke who was sitting in someone elses seat!!

That got pretty heated and i think it ended up with someone being called a pillock!!!!!

Bit young to really remember but West Ham at the Goldstone and the Palace away (when Ryan broke his leg) I seemed to remember coins and small chunks of concrete coming our way.

Missed most of it in those days as our Dad was clever enough to keep us away from all the trouble.

He did go away to Spurs in 70s ? with my brother. A bloke they were with gave a couple of fingers to the away fans and the coach was bricked. Travelled all the way back to Brighton with no back window.

Bizarre thing happened to us coming back from Wrexham a few years ago. The trains were all f*cked that day and we ended up at Birmingham with no connection to London. We were with this pissed bloke (never knew him) and he decided to "hijack" a train to take us back to London. :)

( This involved lying down in the doorway with his legs on the platform )

Unfortunately quite a few teams were crossing through the station that day (Liverpool were at least one with a few others) and he met by twenty odd riot police running down the stairs responding to the guards plea for help.

Not much trouble at all, but probably the funniest and most stupid thing I've seen a Brighton fan do.

I was at the Palace game, it was just a couple of weeks before I left home to find my way in the World, can remember a kid standing next to me being hit by a coin and his dad going absoluteley mental. I seem to remember that it was at half time, a lot of their fans had congregated in an area to our right, possibly near their tea bar, there was also a lot of trouble outside the ground at the end of the game...the Albion were enraged by the Ryan foul, to put things mildly.

I remember them taking the North Stand at a midweek game (League Cup, first season in the First Division?) and seeing people climbing the fences on the right hand side to get away from it. In fairness, it was a case of twats against boys as they had no qualms about hitting schoolkids :tosser:
Ah, was that the one that finished 0-0? I was away and didn't go. Only ever saw the Arse at the Goldstone on a Saturday.

Peterborough away in 76 when their local paper had the headline before the game of ''Town in fear, Brighton here''
I think it was Bamber who who went mad, saying how dare they tarnish the good name of the Albion, who`s supporters were amongst the best in the land.

Anyway the town got smashed up with about 80 arrests.

Gillingham away a couple of seasons earlier when all the Brighton fans broke into the stadium before the gates where officially opened.
That was funny. A empty ground except 500 Brighton behind the goal.

Anyone remember when Birmingham City played down at the Goldstone. It was about 10 minutes to go and I think they were all in the South Stand visiting supporters area...anyway, the stewards obviously opened the gates to let people out early and didnt realise the Birmingham fans were waiting for this.

they made their way out and behind the West Stand, coming back in the ground by the side of the Lego Stand(?) there followed a huge punch up with people trying to get out of the North Stand to get to them

I remember that! I was racking my brainst tring to remember...... seem to remember trouble with either Leeds or Norwich supporters on the walkway at Hove Station. Most of my fist-in-face encounters didn't happen at the Goldstone though... violence wise it was never that high up the scale.
