This entire thread is complete drivel. BHA has never had "hard" fans. Every time the alledged "hard" fans came up against some really hard fans - Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham, Millwall etc they melted away like snow in a heat wave and were never seen again (until the next weeks posturing). The rest is complete wishful thinking and fantasy. I saw the Inter City Firm and Millwall whatever they called themselves in the mid '70s and BHA were helpless kittens by comparison (and still are thank God). Now that is a reputation to be proud of.

By the way, can we resurrect the pink away shirt next season

I'm in no way condoning violence, but I can assure you that I witnessed a bunch of chaps called "The Bosun" giving the Milwall types a right shoeing at Hove station prior to that game in the 70's that we came from 0-2 to win 3-2. Back in the day we did indeed have some right nutters.

Millwall away in 1985. They were unbeaten at home for about 30 games, Mick Ferguson picked up the ball on the half way line, wandered aimlessly towards their goal in his wildebeeste like way, and stroked it past the keeper as their defence did not bother to tackle him.

Afterwards there were a bunch of strange looking blokes on the train back to Brighton, the police escort disappeared at the next station, and these lads got out of the train but NOT on the platform side, and then took out every window with bricks, shale and anything else they could lend their hands on. Completely indiscriminate, women, kids etc all got showered with glass.

i seem to recall peterborough away got a bit naughty on one occasion

buggered if i can remember the year though, must have been in the 80's ???

1985 I think, 2-2 draw with Dean Saunders and Steve Jacobs scoring in the snow. It did get a big rough afterwards.

I also recall Northampton in 1988, we won 2-1 in the second round of the FA Cup there and sold out the away end, kicked off big style afterwards.

Southampton ran us after they beat us 2-0 in 1984/5 at the Goldstone.

Hereford away in 1998 when they played us in the FA Cup after we had sent them to the conference the previous season

Brighton had it's fair share but was never known for its "firms"

Try to get hold of "congratulations, you've met the ICF" by Cass Pennant...there's a chapter called Brighton rock where they came down to Brighton in 78 and nearly got turned over.

Brighton hasn't had a reputation for recognisable firms. We have had a couple of crews such as the Bosun and Lamb&Flag but there was no proper organisation like the battle plans of other outfits (Millwall & West Ham). Travelling away nowadays there is still an element who dont wear colours and are up for it if the opportunity arises.

The only trouble I've ever seen is Brighton fan legging it as fast as they can away from any trouble. The rest is simply vain glorious wishful thinking boasting. We don't fight, we run.:ascarf:
You obviously haven't been in the right place at the right time then(or the wrong place at the wrong time, whatever way you want look at it) but I can assure you Brighton don't run, well certainly not from what i've seen we don't !

There's a fair amount of 'geezers' in B&H who are not really Albion fans but will tuen out, especially for an away day, if there's good prospects of a ruck.

From my own experinces of growing up, when we reached the old Div 1 it was a real awakening. The Albion lads were just that. lads mostly under 25.

Meeting the big clubs you could see their hoolies were 'men' and pretty big blokes as well. They had been hoolies in the big league with big rucks for years whereas our lot had had a few years of fun taking over grounds where the home crowds would have been low.

It's sort of turned full circle now. When you see Albion away, especially where there could be trouble, you'll see loads of 40/50 yo's who have 'been about a bit'.

Brought it home to me a few years ago before a Millwall game up there. i went into a backstreet pub near London bridge and it was packed with geezers and hardly a folicle between them. I, and my son, couldn't just turn and walk out so we bought a drink and then it was a case of recognising one or two and people coming up to say hello....it was a pub full of Brighton. OK, i don't think they were up for trouble but they l;ooked a pretty scary bunch.

seen this for a lot of London games , thing is , these blokes are normally the best type to have pre match beers with as the banter is so much better than alot of the "sportsman" type of pubs

Very true. may look 'hard' but a lot of decent guys there just having a good day out.

The vast majority of those who grew up through the years of footie hooliganism now have kids and are very pleased that trouble is vaery rare these days. I certainly am.

We take it for granted to head into a pub these days, often with both sets of fans showing colours and drinking together. That just couldn't happen back then and it was more like a war zone at some games. Good fun when you're young but not so when you have young of your own.

When I say 'good fun', it should be understood that 99% of the time it was just 'handbags'. No fun at all to be caught up in the real stuff.

Nasty Oxford

Oxford at home following a cup game, around 1982 or 1983, they seemed to come from everywhere, like in zulu dawn. Remember it as the battle of hove park. They ran us ragged. Nasty incident in the early ninties, up at oxford, in a pub near the station as the game was going on. Some brighton lad ended up with part of a brick buried in his head.

I was at that game and remember that very, very well indeed. We were housed in the corner and on our left was one of the biggest and meanest looking firms i have seen in my life.Ferguson scored at the other end and to say the locals didnt take it too well was an understatement. We werent let out of the ground until 6pm and it took more than one attempt.Millwall in the 70s and 80s was not a place for the faint hearted!

Yep, It sure was.

Algi, how much of my post was bollux then? I've been going since the late 60's. If you want to put me right then do so properly.

Sure there may be some lads who have been going for longer but not vast numbers. I tend to think that kids down here grow out of the footie thing and move on to other things and why wouldn't they when brighton were knocking around the lower divisions. Those of the big established clubs at the top would stay being hoolies for much longer.
