Worst referee performance I have ever seen

Hope we get more than our usual 15 seconds on The Championship tonight - after reading all this, it would be good to see it for myself, hopefully with replays and all that. However, I have to say that sending off two players right at the start of the game doesn't sound like the best refereeing in the world - unless GBH was involved, surely most decent refs would have calmed things down?

Came away from the game today absolutely furious with the ref, but bizarrely elated by the performance of our 9 men, and the our stunning support. Now calmed down a bit, and just watched the 90 seconds of footage that the FLS deigned to give us tonight. As far as the Vincelot red goes the footage shed no light on that, but there seem to be a fair number of Albion fans posting tonight who did see him throw a punch, so I think we have to take that one on the chin (although I wasn't aware that it was OK for the playing staff of a team to get involved in the process of getting the referee to talk to his officials....). On the other hand the Barnes tackle is interesting - I think you can read it a couple of ways depending on which particular point of view you're trying to support. For what it's worth it looks to me like Barnes pulls out of a challenge for a 50:50 ball when he realises it could result in a nasty injury for one of them, but in doing so he looks to have landed on the Burnley player with his studs. The Burnley player clearly didn't see it like that though, hence his reaction, which seemingly convinces the referee that Barnes had gone in with a dangerous studs showing challenge. Interesting tha the FLS commentary expressed surprise that it was a Brighton player sent off...

Otherwise the ref and his linesmen were shocking - basic calls throughout the game were embarrassingly wrong on a regular basis. I think it said it all when one of the Burnley players openiy laughed along with the West Stand crowd at one of the many wrong calls in the second half. Worst refereeing I've seen since Andy D'Urso.

maybe the ref had burnley as an away win in his saturday football bet!! seems to me that these officials know we have the worst disciplinary record in the division and are somewhat out to clamp down us severely but as we all know the disciplinary record is bad mainly due to inept officials but what can we do???? not a lot i guess!!

After watching the FLS I'm none the wiser as to the 2 reds, didn't show the pen shout either. Barnes was cleaned up then had his throat grabbed, how that was a red for our player I will never know, Chris McCan clearly goes in with 2 feet, I think Barnes is getting out the way rather than stamping, McCanns reaction & tackle not getting any kind of card is a disgrace.

Terrible decisions all over the park all game. I have the marvel that is Sky+ HD and have watched our 30 seconds back several times and Barnes is just plain unlucky. He hurdles a 2 footer and then gets assaulted which is pretty much how I read it at the time. The nuetral BBC voiceover comment expressing surprise it was a Brighton player says it all. But there was comedy all over the pitch. He missed El-Abd being strangled, a foul on Noone in full flight and every time there was a goal-kick / corner you could flip a coin for which way it would be given.

Pawson needs to hang his head in shame. Then emigrate to Somalia.

Even this photo screams school nerd, probably bullied for being a snitch, crap at sports, takes his revenge by becoming a referee. Could have easily chosen parking attendant, steward, community police officer, but instead takes up destroying games with a misplaced arrogance. What a cock, at least his mum probably loves him, although I think even she knows deep down her son is a tit.

I'm fairly sure you lot had a thread with the exact same title after our game at St Mary's coincidence... or conspiracy? :moo:

Not a conspiracy at all, but can you recall a team getting 2 reds inside the first 15mins, neither of which seem obvious either in the ground or in TV!?

No, didn't see the game or our highlights but to be fair the performance at St Mary's by the ref was simply awful  Supposed premier league referee as well if I remember? I personally thought that once we were out of league 1 we'd see an improvement in the quality of officials but so far in the Champ some of them have been frankly piss-poor.

in general, the officials in this country are poor, and the FA need to take charge of this. The referee ruined this game within 12 minutes, and this happens throughout the country on a weekly basis. Somewhere a club is being right royally f***ed over.

Referees, lines men & 4th officials need to show some common sense. The atmosphere was electric yesterday and there was pure hatred towards the ref. Had the cards been warranted, then i think the crowd would have been a bit more forgiving. How long it is before the poor refereeing in this country insights violence towards opposing fans or match officials? At some point i can see a referee getting jobbed, or it kicks off between fans afterwards? In fact i thought it might have happened yesterday, a fan run on an lumped the ref (fortunately it didn't) but it will somewhere, or it kicking off after the final whistle, between fans that have no hatred. This would really stretch the police, as they would not be expecting any trouble.

I was told by someone right by the Vincelot incident that the Burnley player was pushing, shoving, holding his shirt and that Vincelot threw his elbow back across the Burnley player's stomach, so therefore not a 'punch'. It could be construed as an elbow but then why didn't the 4th official notice the pushing and grabbing beforehand? I'm not saying that Vincelot shouldn't have got a card of any colour but the inconsistincies of yesterday make me angry. Was it because the Burnley bench were in his ear?

If anyone sees the Barnes sending off as just a red to him is a f***ing idiot. The two footer flying challenge by their player is the agreessive tackle, I can't really see how the referee has made that decision.

After being shown the red card, vincelot seemed to be gesturing that he had been butted. Clearly more went on than should have was acted upon. Also the burnley number 6 at one point seemed to be gesturing to the ref to calm down.

Well the Burnley players seemed to congratulate their number 20 after the red card so still not clear to me what actually happened but the BBC website said foul and abusive language.

Being ref'd out of a game seems to be a bigger risk than other teams this year. Not just yesterday, look at the Saints game and others. One bad penalty decision every now and again fine, but numerous weird sendings off and penalty decisions against us and nothing for us makes you think that the club should start to make some investigation into this before deciding what to do.
As for worst ever, well I will raise you Kelvin Morton at Selhurst

Referee biased? A disgrace? Mate, have you been to many football matches? After the two incidents, we were diving and holding onto our faces like we had been shot (tarro/El Ab in particular). The Noone penalty....possibly, seen some given some not. All I am saying is the ref was not that bad and I get embarrassed at times when we start diving and holding faces/knees instead of just getting on with it.
Having said that, 100% better than the Forest performance and I was proud of all nine of them. Gus.....please don't storm off when you don't agree with something, not professional and not exactly what the players need when there is a crisis!

I think it may be the other way around mate. I have supported this club man and boy for 35 years, so I shudder to think how many games I have been to, and that ref was biased. I don't care what you say. terryberry1 and countless others seem to think the same as I do. Were you at the game and where were you sitting? because from where I was the Barnes sending off, should have been both of them, but no. Also if the ref deemed that Nooney dived in the South goal, then where was his yellow? He didn't get it simply because it was a penalty.
