Why did you start supporting Brighton?

I was born and bred in Sussex and they were 'our' team. My Grandfather used to go regularly and his brother was a season ticket holder in the 1950s. It just 'happened' somehow! First game was at the end of the 68/69 season.

Abort, retry, fail
I was taken to a game as an end of season trip for our football team in '91 by Sammy Nelson as his son was a good friend of mine. 0-0 vs Milwall. Then the next game was the sit in game vs Southend.

Moved to Lancing aged 8. I was a Chelsea fan, my family were Palace fans so I went to the Goldstone with friends just for something to do if I wasn't seeing a 'proper' game at Stamford Bridge or Selhurst Park.

Like Lord B I just gradually switched to Brighton and by the time of the 1972 (?) promotion season I was pretty much 100% with only residual loyalty to Chelsea. First time I went to Palace as an opposition supporter was in 1974/75 (can't remember the exact year). It was before the rivalry, Brighton won 1-0 and there was hardly an Albion fan there. First time I heard the "ee-ore" chant which annoyed me because Palace had always been the Glaziers.

Didn't know it at the time but it was the last game I would go to with my Dad.

I was a rugby fan when I was young and didn't get into football until I was nine - it was England winning the World Cup that did it for me. I then wanted to see a live game and my dad said we could go and see Brighton: I was amazed as I hadn't realised that we had a football team.

As my dad worked a lot of Saturdays, I had to wait until January to go, but we finally went. It was a bitterly cold day, Albion were dreadful and were beaten 3-2 by Walsall but I was hooked from then on.

I got one of those cool Bukta shirts in the late 70s and stayed up "late" when my brother was baby-sitting to see them on telly in one of those 5-a-side tournaments Sportsnight used to show.

Strangely, it was a friend of the family who took me to my first "real" match - and I caught the bug big time.

I was bribed. I was a Leeds supporter living in Sussex at the age of 10, and my Dad said there was no way I was going to see them play, so why didn't I change to a local side.

Then they bought me off with a hat and a scarf.

Used to live in Chichester so was a simple choice between Pompey and Brighton.

All my mates supported Pompey but luckily my old man was a season ticket holder at the Goldstone and used to take me to games from about age 7 in '81.

My first major experience I remember of the Albion was some pre-season triangular tournament against I think Liverpool and Forest, all games played at the Goldstone.

Drove me Uncle mad to take me when I was about 6.

First game I went to, stood just behind the goal in the North Stand....Fred Binney gets the ball 8 yards out turns, shoots.....
and blazes over the bar (He did that a lot)

Ball hits me straight in the head, knocks me out :lolol:

Been going most weeks since....must be the brain damage...

LOL. Don't think we met until 1979, old boy. :D

First people I went with were Wuang brothers, Harry Rehin, John Godfrey, Nick Ree, etc. Tip toe through the North Stand...
