For sheer brilliance and pin your ears back awesome power and brilliant musicianship nothing has had the impact on me before or after since, The Stranglers - Rattus Norvegicus.

Therefore this has to get my vote.

Far too much Michael Jackson on this thread for my liking. Or am I missing some good old-fahioned British irony humour stuff?

OLD JOKE

What's the difference between Michael Jackson and a Sainsbury's carrier bag?

One is made of plastic and is dangerous to children, the other you carry your shopping in.

You obviously haven't heard Northern Soul.

History is a bit of an 'epic', but nobody who knows anything about music would describe that album as "over produced".

achieving grade 7 at piano would suggest I know SOMETHING about music

But clearly you know nothing about the production of the Verve album Northern Soul (have you actually heard it?) - and yet, as usual, you still felt the need to spout an ill-informed opinion on NSC.

On behalf of the board, "thanks a lot". :shootself

Wozza I do know about the production of Northern Soul, why would I call them over produced if I haven't heard the album, you seem to be underestimating how many albums I listen to every day.

Because you've heard Urban Hymns and assumed the previous album was made with the same producer and sounded similar?

Because you know nothing about rock music production?

Because you're a twat who simply has to have a opinion on music, even if it's wrong, and people rarely call you on it?

All of the above?

I dunno, you tell me!

I only had to do a quick google search and it seems other people are in agreement.

.. After a brief tour in support of A Northern Soul The Verve broke up ... The production on Northern Soul
is also overdone and the album ends up with a general feeling of sappiness ...

For densely layered music read "overcooked"

lesson over.

On NSC for over two decades...
I can't just pick one, so I'm going to be indulgent and give you a selection of the best from my collection:

Floored - Pusherman
Golden Greats - Ian Brown
Core - Stone Temple Pilots
Electric Ladyland - Jimi Hendrix
Surfa Rosa - The Pixies
The Real Thing - Faith No More
Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
Superunknown - Soundgarden
Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
Lifeforms - Future Sound Of London
Dookie - Green Day

I could go on and on and on really. But that would be really boring.

Piano - Grade 2 (failed) ;)

Okay, now you're making yourself look very, very stupid.

Only an absolute moron would back-up his argument my using Google and finding one person who agrees with him.

I mean, by that reckoning, if I find one other person on here who thinks you're an A1 cvnt, then it must be true. And what if I find 100 people who agree!?!?

Are you currently studying the history of The Verve so we can have a debate? Shouldn't you know what you're talking about before spouting shite?

I think you both have different views on what the sound of over produced music is, dwayne listens to a lot of hip hop and will have a VERY different opinion to someone who does not about what is over-produced (not a bad thing dwayne, just an observation darling).

Personally i thnik Urban Hymns was very over-produced, Northern Soul wasn't.
