Orange Spain. Charged €3000 for 3 days data roaming in Dubai. Complained when got home, decided as it was a business number we needed it re-connecting ASAP so went to an Orange shop to pay and got told you cannot pay now as you have complained. They made us wait one month till we was allowed to pay and get reconnected.

Virgin Media lap everyone

I'll disagree there. Their service can be shocking at times, but the moment that you complain or even hint about leaving them they bend over backwards. Sometimes I just ring up and threaten to leave to see what offers they'll give me (most recently it was a free TiVo box with free installation and they also moved my old V+ box into the bedroom :D )

Oh, one I forgot. HMV used to have a shop in Western Road and I bought a Blondie album there in 1979. When I got it home it jumped on one track so next day I took it back. Bloke in there said they didn't have any more so I could have a credit note. I I'd I wanted a refund because it was faulty so I could go buy it in Virgin. Took me 20 minutes of arguing before I got my money, called the bloke a c**t, and vowed never to shop there again, a grudge I've held to this day (I've not set foot in the Brighton shop since).

We're about to get one of these for my daughter. Please expand on the problem you have had.

My situation was that I was travelling to South Africa to pay for an item costing 5k. I went into my local Travelex branch and clearly explained exactly what I needed the card for and the amount involved, indicating that it would just be a single transaction involved.

Knowing that there was the possibility that the vendor might not accept the card, I asked about what would happen if I didn't use any of the balance on the card. I was informed by the salesman that it was a very simple process to 'cash out' the card and retrieve the exact balance on the card that I loaded on, and the only fee I would be charged would be £6. Having used Travelex traveller's cheques in the past, I was under the impression that I would be locked into an exchange rate.

As it transpired, there is a 3k maximum transaction fee attached to the cards, which I only found out when I was reading the brochure after having bought the card. This was obviously in complete contradiction to what I had been told by the salesman, and meant that the card was essentially useless to me as I needed to carry out a single transaction at a value of 5k.

Upon my return from the trip, I arranged for Travelex to 'cash out' the card and pay the balance back into my bank account. When the money was paid back into my account, I discovered that I had been paid £800 less than the balance that I put on. This was again in total contradiction to what I had been told by the salesman. I am obviously aware that most foreign exchange providers buy currency back at an inferior rate, but I had been assured that that the Cash Passport worked on a similar basis to travellers cheques.

Comet.

Rude and unhelpful in branch and on the phone. Also by e-mail. I'd rather have a foreign call centre than the Comet one.

I will never use Comet again and nor should anyone else.

That's all.

I used to work in a nightclub and some of the customers were pretty interesting, woman accused me of being selfish when she knocked her drink over and I refused to give her free drinks.

On a lighter note, big thumbs up to Currys. Bought laptop in Nottingham. 1 week later wouldn't turn on. Went into George Street branch and told them the problem. Employee said he knew what the problem was but was unable to fix it as the store was only small. But he found my record of sale as I didnt have my receipt (was in nottingham) so printed off a new receipt for me and said if you take it to the large Currys on Old Shoreham Road they'll sort it out. Took it there and the guy said, as you've only had it a week do you just want a new one. So with no questions or arguements I was given a replacment.
Can't ask for more.

Orange circa 1999.

02 attempted to scam me into a new contract last year and only stopped when my MP told them to.

Orange with me too!

can't stand Vodafone....

BT can be shocking at times. If you can get through.

BT my pet hate...

vodafone in other countries is a complete shocker.

This, BT are the worst for customer services

3G and Talktalk, worst customer service ever.

Orange have been the worst I've dealt with.

I'd also add BT...

Vodafone are just one massive joke.

Anyone see a pattern here?

Vodaphone Spain - Spent €1500 per month with them for two phones over 5 years so around €90,000. Decided we wanted to swap our blackberrys for Iphones. They said it would cost us €300 per phone even though we have thousands of points to use. Went on for 12 months got really pissed off contacting customer service so when we was out of contract we contacted them again and said we were canceling as Orange will give us free Iphones and half our bill. They said if you cancel it will cost you €800, explained we are not in contract but they said they have a note on our system that we were in contract, we asked for the copy of signed agreement they said they did not have to provide it.

Cancelled went with Orange, Vodaphone tried to take us to court for not paying the €800 our solicitor and our accountant said best pay as the fact they are attempting to take us to court will damage our credit file. So had no choice but to pay, in Spain no ombudsman so they can do what they like.

Alitalia. Got bumped off a Milan to Abu Dhabi flight last year after a skiing hol as they are the weaker (and significantly cheaper) partner in a code share with Etihad and although they managed to fly wife and kids back on the flight I had to sleep in a hotel and catch the next flight back. Anyways I'm due compensation under EU rules as flight was departing from a European airport but any attempts by me to chase the claim in UK or Italy and I'm given an address in Tunisia to write to. As if the effing arabs are going to do anything about it.

I'd like to nominate Virgin Media. Awful service.
I've only been with them 12 weeks and so far they've:

Failed to install the internet superhub equipment correctly
Breakdown of said superhub after only 3 weeks
Ignored e mails and calls
Set up telephone package incorrectly
Cut off my service when I was £20 under my credit limit

I've already had to speak to Neil Berkett ( CEO ) and he's sorted most of it out, but it's really not a great advert for the company
Dreadful service and pathetic help from VM

Vodafone are just one massive joke. Can't wait to ditch my contract with them next month.

Going to do exactly the same.
Got a fixed term contract yet charges seem to go up every month.

On a positive my daughter had her phone fixed recently by Phones 4 U.It was not ready on the day it was meant to be. However, the following day it was ready. As way of apology the manager brought it round to her house that evening in person.

Awful.
Unhelpful, unfriendly, unwilling to listen to their customer, expensive, unreliable and full of Scottish people I can't understand

You missed out "and bloody useless".

Took me an hour on the phone to cancel the movies package, even then they got it wrong, they quoted me a new price higher than it was before I tried to cancel.
