I understand that a number of Lancs members reacted similarly after Grizzly and the boys' visit last summer.

Broke my arm when I was eight.

That stung a bit.

I had a general anaesthetic to get my arm straightened out in order that they could put the plaster cast on. That and having a general anaesthetic when I had six milk teeth out when I was 15 leaves you with a chronic headache.

Think 14 pints of Leffe Trippel, snogging a kango-hammer and sleeping on concrete having been force fed 'music' at a Chris de Burgh concert and you're in the right ballpark.

Kidney stones aren't exactly a barrel of laughs, I've been blessed with about 9 over the last 12 years. I normally piss them out a couple of days, they're quite small but very sharp. worst time was when one got stuck in my japs eye.

The three hours between 'out of hours' Doctor A suspecting appendicitis, but suggesting "we wait to see how it develops", and 'out of hours' Doctor B agreeing with A's diagnosis and giving me a pain-killing injection.

The appendix came out painlessly the next day.

5 dislocations of the shoulder - pretty painful...2 of them reduced without any painkillers...one of them just wouldn't go the f*** back in, interns hadn't a clue, so I got out of bed and bashed it against the wall which sorted it, made the intern faint and I felt a bit green....

The indigestion about 2 weeks before Arthur was born was very scary - thought I was having a heart attack it was so painful....

I've had one migraine in my life, before I got married the first time (should have seen the signs ) that was absolute agony, I really feel for people who continually suffer those...

But it all paled into insignificance when the epidural didn't work properly when having Arthur. There was a section all the way down my leg which wasn't numb, that in itself wasn't too bad - what really hurt was the third degree tears, and subsequent stitching up without any aneasthetic...agony like no other....

I had a handbag fabricated from the off-cut,which turns into a suitcase when stroked.

I discovered that the normal local anaesthetic (Lignocaine) has no effect on me when I was being stitched after my first child...that explains why the dentist is always so bad...I have to have something different now!

I've also slipped a disc in my back, twice over the years...the pain made me faint...I ended up having surgery 17 months ago, a microdiscectomy...but its not much better, and in fact am having another MRI tomorrow to see if the operation needs repeating!

Having an ingrowing toenail removed - the doctor attempted twice to give me a local anaesthetic in the big toe and failed twice! At that point I was in so much agony I asked him to remove it without the anaesthetic - not such a wise decision as I then proceded to climb the walls whilst he hacked about ... needless to say my previous sympathy levels for those with ingrowing toenails went from 0% to 100% from then on in....

Tearing the thing (not sure of the medical term) that joins the sternum to the rib-cage, extremely painful as it cant be immobilised and results in an excruciating pain every time you breathe deeply...don't even think about laughing...did it playing hockey, not just once but three times and it takes 4-6 weeks before you are back to normal.

I read a few years ago of a pub rugby team touring Ireland. One of the players dislocated his hip and the doctors pushed it back in only for the player in question to let out the most blood-chilling scream ever heard.

They'd accidentally got one of his testicles caught in the socket.

That was only half the story. Apparantly when they squashed the testicle he sceamed so loudly that he smashed and damaged his vocal chords so badly he could not talk for a prolonged period of time. OUCH

Had that too - went up to A& E and was told that there was nothing could be done. Had necked a bunch of ibuprofens and sank a load of lager - not a winning combination under the circumstances
