Send them back to where?

Looks like Bojo's letter to Macron went down well...

Well action speaks better then words send them back to France as MOST of them are economic time wasters not required in this country ,who's going to slap us on the wrist if we do ? the moment we start turning them back that's the moment they stop coming .
People in this country are fed up with this continuous farce , France is a safe country the only issue is they don't put them up in 4 star hotels feed them 3 times a day and give them some pocket money

Yes we get that arguement all the time from the liberal fantasists ,some of them say we should fly them over or ferry them over to avoid the dinghy experience jokers the lot of them the whole situation had become a compete farce .

Off shore processing has to be the way forward and keeping them in a secure area while in this country awaiting their 'Asylum ' claim would be a good idea because no one has any idea who they are

It is amusing that those who wanted to leave a political union are now desperate for a unilateral political solution to this problem. Control of our borders is really working isn't it. If only we had mechanisms in place to cooperate with our neighbours. Oh well. At least Northern Ireland is all sorted.

The French aren't going to help us Macron is still bitter and twisted over Brexit, this country has to take its own control and forget about the French to much pussy footing around and the public are fed up with it !

The report, An analysis of Channel crossings & asylum outcomes, based on Freedom of Information data and Home Office statistics for the period between January 2020 and May 2021 finds that 91% of people came from just ten countries where human rights abuses and persecution are common. These include Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, Eritrea and Yemen.

According to the Home Office 98% of people coming across the Channel apply for asylum. The report sets out the likely outcome of their asylum claims, based on what is known as the grant rate, meaning that people will be able to remain in the UK. It shows that the majority of people crossing the Channel are likely to be recognised as being in need of protection at initial decision stage.

The report calls into question the government and Home Office’s narrative that the majority of people crossing the Channel are not in genuine need of protection. It says the government should rethink its new Borders Bill and calls for:

An ambitious expansion of existing safe routes including both resettlement scenes and refugee family reunion.
A humanitarian visa system to allow people to apply for a visa to enter the UK for the purposes of claiming asylum, thereby reducing the need for people to make dangerous journeys across the Channel
A recognition that many people seeking asylum will have no other option other than making an irregular journey as recognised in the 1951 Refugee Convention, and therefore they need to be treated fairly and humanely by being granted a fair hearing on UK soil. The government need to put in place an efficient and effective asylum decision making system with timely decisions that are of high quality so people do not have to wait for months or years for an outcome on their case.

I’m glad you find it amusing that people want a solution to people losing their lives in French waters to the point that you politicise your comments, quite literally shame on you.

We do everything we can to stick 2 fingers up to the French and blame them yet still expect them to help us

Can you clarify 'stitch them up'?

Your expert views on this will be much appreciated.

I would have thought helping the poor souls losing their lives in their waters would be more of a priority for them than worrying about being stitched up [emoji2357]

But remember they need us more than we need them.

The hard reality is Brexit isn't working and so is someone else on this board..

Indeed.

I would suggest that getting back the UK's seat on the management board for Europol - the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation - and getting British officers access to the Europol database would be measures that could reduce the issue and would help the UK’s and EU's efforts to dismantle immigrant smuggling networks. Reinstating or replacing the much maligned Dublin regulation would certainly also help. Also, if we could improve international relations with the countries across the channel I'm sure we would be more likely to find successful joint operations and solutions.

It may just be coincidence but all these things going seemed to have coincided with the three fold (and growing) increase.

I don't know how we would go about that though ???

Do you have any suggestions as to how to help ?

I really don’t think the poster I was replying to has the best interests of migrants in his heart. Do you?

Anyway, how is it not political? What a stupid thing to say.
