Curtailing the activities of the criminal smuggling gangs (who are the ones responsible for smuggling) operating on French territory that is within French jurisdiction must primarily be the remit of French law enforcement and up to the French legal system to dispense punishment. Your continued insistence that it must be the UK government who must resolve criminal activity by criminal gangs in France is plain daft.
What do you want the UK to do to the criminal smuggling gangs in France? Go over to French soil and arrest the traffickers and drag them to the French courts?

Well, I guess that if your concern is really around trying to stop International smuggling gangs (that smuggle refugees across international borders) then you wouldn't be very happy with anyone who voted for this

As does everyone. Unfortunately, all indications are that the problem is actually getting worse and I can't see what that solution would be :(

Has Brexit made dealing with illegal migration more difficult?

A record number of migrants have crossed the English channel from France this year, despite UK immigration policy no longer being tied to EU rules. Ministers have acknowledged the situation is a crisis, with the Home Secretary repeatedly vowing to make small boat crossings "unviable" - but little progress has been made.

Having pledged to "take back control" of the UK's borders post-Brexit, ministers now acknowledge the ability to deal with aspects of illegal migration has been hampered by the loss of certain arrangements that came with EU membership. So far in 2021 more than 25,700 people have completed the perilous journey across the Dover Strait, the busiest shipping lane in the world - three times the total for 2020.Of these people who have made it to UK shores, a government minister revealed last week just five people had been returned to Europe.

Following Brexit, the UK lost it's seat on the management board for Europol - the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation - and British officers can no longer interrogate the Europol database. This will impact the UK’s efforts to dismantle immigrant smuggling networks.

People smuggling gangs are modern day slave traders- they are vile.
I would hope most people including you would want their activities stamped out whether they transport people internationally or domestically. Fortunately, most countries do try and combat it and frequently do throw these scum at the mercy of their legal system when they smash a ring and arrest people.
Lets hope the French authorities throw the kitchen sink at these smugglers operating on French soil. Personally I would let the CRS have free rein to crack some smugglers heads. Possibly not in their remit but you can rely on them to hit first and ask questions later.
I don’t know anyone who has ever voted for a smuggling gang. How on earth did the smugglers get themselves on a ballot?

Do you need clock reading lessons this time

‘Performative cruelty’: UK treatment of refugees worst ever, says charity

Kent Refugee Action Network says young people arriving on south coast are a benefit, not a problem

Yes we get that arguement all the time from the liberal fantasists ,some of them say we should fly them over or ferry them over to avoid the dinghy experience jokers the lot of them the whole situation had become a compete farce .

Off shore processing has to be the way forward and keeping them in a secure area while in this country awaiting their 'Asylum ' claim would be a good idea because no one has any idea who they are

Well the Sky News video showing clear visual evidence that the Police are watching and doing nothing surely can’t be described as pandering to their right wing viewers?

Look at it this way, think of the people on the right in France, Marine le Pen and the National Front - they would presumably be elated to see refugees dissapear to the UK with their anti immigrant stance, yet our far right equivalent of Farage and UKIPers expect France to be the opposite of them and help the refugees and solve the problem

Maybe it's the same far right views in France that has forced refugees out and ended up on our shores?

Johnson has always been shit at diplomacy, making his letter to Macron public a huge mis-step. Remember he has an election coming up, clueless bufoon…

Which part of the letter is controversial? I've skim read it and nothing stood out

I think Johnson's megafone diplomacy may have got the result he wanted, now he can try and blame the French, AGAIN.

But French have had enough, 5 years + of histrionic and domestic tantrums.

The good news for Johnson is Macron has an election coming and also the EU presidency coming up. Things aren't going to get any easier
