I know some of our fans don't like us applauding the away fans when attendances are read out. I do. I like that we acknowledge the effort and money spent by them to come down to our stadium and support their team, hopefully making a great atmosphere and behaving themselves when mingling with the home fans. We usually also applaud our own fans for the efforts and money spent by them to come to games too, so whether they walked from lucraft road, made the trek from middlesbrough, or hopped on a train at portsmouth, I'm ok with applauding.

However, if they misbehave, if they are disrespectful (such as the banner from ipswich fans or tasteless chants towards a particular player (be they racist, homophobic, relate to legal troubles, or are simply misdirected vitriol)) then I won't and don't expect the majority to applaud opposition fans.

If portsmouth behave themselves, and concentrate on supporting their team, I imagine I will applaud them when attendances are read out.

I'll applaud because its the done thing. No-matter what I think of Pompey as a club (really an abject dislike) no club deserves the comedic choice of ownership over the last few years and its not the fans fault.

As for the comment about "If they won't help themselves why should we bother helping them?"... Seriously? other than protesting and supporting their club, what do you expect them to do?

Even if the 20-odd-k that turn up to Fratton Park contributed £100 each, it would only raise £2m-ish and not everybody is as rich as you clearly are Noooone so they may not be able to spare it...

why is it 'the done thing' ?

Can't say I'm too bothered about clapping or booing them. Will concentrate on cheering on Brighton, and then as mentioned above, react accordingly if they conduct themselves in a positive or negative manner. The same as what I did against Ipswich.

Got a feeling they won't be looking for our support though and will revel in the usual homophobic witty banter

Who was the victim when the Albion fan lying on the ground in the Lanes, many years ago, was jumped on and his leg was snapped?

I was caught up in that & it was a nasty business. A sizable proportion of their travelling fans will be like minded knuckle draggers & will get no applause from me.

Rev, why must we applaud them?

Its a bit late for them to start looking for support from the 'lower league' teams...

I didn't see protest after protest from their fans as their club, amongst many others in the footballing elite, began to strip apart football so that only the super rich can compete.

This is the world they (PFC) created (or at least were accomplice too)... and now the only thing that matters in football is the sponsors not the fans...

How many more clubs will go into admin because clubs like theirs started playing Premier League monopoly and chasing the "dream"

I'm sorry, the genuine fans will again suffer for the folly of irresponsible owners, but I for one will not shed a tear at their passing.

While those that chose to applaud I shall probably be spending some money in the clubs concourse scoffing a pie and sinking a couple of harveys. To ensure we never get into this kind of trouble again I urge all of you to spend money at the ground. Eat pies, drink beer, watch Brighton.

Sorry, don't get all this patronising applause for away supporters, never heard us getting the same when attendances are read out at away games?

Why should we be like everyone else? I like the fact we always acknowledge the away support, it's incredibly sporting but that is surely a positive?

Will I applaud Pompey fans on Saturday? Yes, unless they unleash some kind of ridiculous banner. While they have a fair few twits supporting them, it is a club rooted in it's community, and I personally feel the fans have been hung out to dry, they are not tasked with running the club, I don't believe they pressured the club to make massive signings, or are a group of supporters that craved or demanded success; this was mainly down to the board at the time.

Can't believe we can't show a bit of solidarity for their plight, even if we do resent the way they've behaved over the years. Most will be decent football fans.
