Hi Folks

Grimsby fan here. We've just signed Wayne Henderson on a month's loan who I believe was your #1 for a couple of years. We're currently in the midst of our worst period in living memory and are fighting for our lives to stay in the football league, so was wondering if the guy is any good?

We need a decent shot-stopper (because frankly, there'll be a couple of hundred shots to stop each game) and someone who can command the area (because our current 'keeper is a 6ft 4", 16 stone, arm-flapping mincer with an apparent mortal fear of venturing more than 6 inches off his line).

Good luck with your own relegation battle - it's grim in League Two!

He can't hold onto decent shots and has a habbit of parrying the ball out into dangerous areas. His throwing and kicking is top notch.I reckon he will do very well in league 2 for you.

f*** me  You've signed Wayne Henderson  I know he has been injured and out for several months with a back problem but he is a quality goalkeeper and too good to play in League Two (playing for the Republic of Ireland suggests so as well). What is wrong with Phil Barnes anyway? I believe it to be more of the players who play out of position all the time under Mike Newell more for the current 'mare of a season that you're having.

Ruddy bloody hell. He had his knockers when he was here, mainly because he was keeping a very popular goalkeeper Michel Kuipers out of the team, but overall he was a very competent keeper. At his best his distribution was generally great, shot stopping good. Only doubts I had was he didn't organise his defence well, didnt dominate the box as well as he could and occasionally flapped at crosses.

Good luck in your battle to survive. never been to Grimsby but a league without you would just not be right.

Phil Barnes? Fantastic shot-stopper, awful at everything else. One who really splits the fans, but right now is far to inconsistent given our position and in my opinion, needs to be dropped.

I personally still have a lot of respect for Mike Newell, but if anything takes us down, it will be his lack of tactical nouse (that, and the pathetic squad he inhertited)...

Hmm forgot about the Bournemouth debacle. Moments before I had turned to my son and said those immortal words "well at least we didnt lose..."

Oh and what about that terrible clearance he made to let someone score from the half way line? I think it's on one of those football funny dvd's!!!

He was a f***ing calamity. My favourite moment was when he cost us a draw at Bournemouth in the last minute and the albion fans turned on him big time. I can still hear the glorious tones of "dodgy keeper" ringing through Dean Court as that paddy prick dared to come towards us. Overall, he couldn't command a game of tiddlywinks let alone a penalty box, parried pretty much every shot back into play, and kept our best player out of the team through some ludicrous jocko management. £150k for him was an even bigger steal than the £1.5m we got for Virgo. Still, league two is shit, so he'll probably look respectable in that.

Hope that was a balanced and fair report for you:thumbsup:

That was my worst moment of watching the club. I cannot believe you enjoyed that moment. Those fans who booed him are an embarassment to the club.

In answer to the question, Henderson was a decent keeper in the Championship for us but some of the idiotic element amongst our fans turned on him and effectively forced him out. Since then he has had a lot of injury problems so it is impossible to know how well he has recovered.

Probably the player who has split fans most in recent times but I rated him.

Sounds like our keeper Kuipers.Great shot stopper(except against Northampton) but crap at kicking, throwing and saving pens.

Ok fair point, probably says alot about the confidence they have in Gary Montgomery then (I think he's still there).

Henderson is a good goalkeeper, although whether or not he can keep you in League Two is another matter, but he will make some blinding saves along the way.

I actually think relegation this year would not be such a bad thing for GTFC, as it will give some of the good youngsters that are on the books a bit more of a run in the team (North, A Taylor, Normington, Freeman, Davies etc.)

That was the moment that, in my opinion, got rid of the Irish clown and allowed Michel, the man of my heart, to return. Plus there was the bonus of the albion faithful letting Henderson know exactly what we thought of him. Of course I enjoyed it!!!

It was an absolute disgrace. A minority of morons booing a player who had just made a mistake and came over to apologise to the fans. He was clearly gutted about it. How would you like it if idiots booed you every time you made a mistake?

By the way, do you ever think Kuipers can do anything wrong e.g. the goal in midweek?

That is total rubbish saying relegation might not be a bad thing. Not only does it hurt you financially but you could end up there for some time.Look at York,Mansfield,Oxford etc.

I don't think any of those players, perhaps with the exception of Danny North should he apply himself, have the ability to make it as professional footballers. More likely, the club would cease to exist within a couple of years.

Relegation = almost certain doom.

Thanks for your insight chaps!
