Absolutely shocking footage, what a disgrace.

Total and utter disgrace. You get the feeling though if Utd and Chelsea fans act in a similar way next week, English clubs would get a European ban. Anything likely to happen to Scottish clubs because of this ?

They've now cancelled plans to show the Champs League final on big screens in Manchester as well. Can't say I blame them.

I have heard this argument on the radio this morning. " Oh they should have checked the Screen was working"

At the end of the day, technology failed. It happens. I dont assume someone pulled a plug out deliberately...there was a failure. Yes a terrible one, but one that happens.

the problem here is now this situation, normally for big tournements where fans are encouraged to go to matches without tickets to "experience the experience". personally I fail to see the point in going many miles to a sporting event just to sit in a town square and get pissed. You can do that either at home or in a local pub.

Obviously this was all going to kick off......pissed up youths drinking from 6 in the morning, hot weather and their team losing....what the hell did people expect?

Good to see hoolians are still going on the rampage.

Does that make it alright, or acceptable in any fashion?

As I understood it, Manchester City Council weren't keen to have Rangers fans around the city; but once it emerged that tens of thousands of Rangers fans were going to turn up anyway, they felt that they had to do something. And they did the best they could. How many cities in the world could organise facilities to cater for over 100,000 fans with only 1 or 2 weeks notice?

Or perhaps they could have put a screen up at Old trafford or something and keep people away from the city centre.

Think I heard a ManUre fan on radio saying there were thousands of fans picking up Chumps League Final tickets so couldn't have had screen there. Not sure if it those arrangements couldn't have been changed though?

Just saw the pictures on the news of a mob attacking a cop who had fallen over, bloody disgraceful.

...at least this should put to bed any notion of the Old Firm clubs joining the Premiership, this could be a regular occurrence if drink fueled jocks go on the rampage every weekend in a city centre near you, many of them loathe the English...why give them the opportunity to prove it?

Obviously violence and intimidation are inexcusable, but for God's sake plan better than this.

"Once it became clear that tens of thousands of Rangers fans (without tickets) were going to turn up anyway..." - Of COURSE they were, how f***ing obvious was that?!

There were 70,000 England in Cologne vs Sweden in WC2006, of which about 1/3had tickets.

As soon as Manchester found out they'd got the final gig they should have made contingency for a huge influx of fans. There could just as easily been 50,000 Spurs or Everton fans or even, God forbid, a Spurs vs Rangers final. Now that would have been a FAR more tricky exercise than this.

I think that 70K fans would have been more than catered for by Manchester city council's arrangements, it's the fact that an estimated 150-200K turned up that caused the problem!!!

The Old Firm in the Prem is an interesting crowd control issue. You have to wonder if they ever got in how many thousand fans would descend upon, say, Newcastle? I reckon you'd easily get 40,000 from both clubs turning up for the weekend.
