Railway stations:

What could be the possible justification for rebuilding the line to the cement works even if a stadium was built there? 25 days a year for footy games plus a few other events. Absolute nonsense. A bus shuttle from Shoreham or Lancing or somewhere would have to be introduced.

A Waterhall station COULD be justified if the stadium was built there. A great "Parkway station" location for commuters to park their cars and catch the train to London. And in the other direction a very good park-and-ride location for shoppers going to Brighton.

Goldstone - that is what every sane person would realise would be a fantastic idea for the city of Brighton and Hove. However our city is full of NIMBY's, Greens, Hippies, and councillors with no vision or guts to do these sort of projects.

The biggest mistake that was made when building the Brighton bypass was that the A27 was not taken 500m further North at Waterhall, thus freeing up the land at Waterhall for future development (park & ride, football ground, cricket ground, rugby ground, athletics stadium). Anyone with a bit of vision would see that this would have been a fantastic site for a sports centre and park & ride for the city.

I agree - this would make a lot of sense. Sadly BR / Railtrack / Network Rail have consistently said that a station could not be built at Waterhall 'because it is a small stretch of line between two tunnels'. I don't know what this has to do with anything but when anyone mentions a Waterhall Parkway station this is what they come out with.

Falmer it is, then.
