Well, if we're going to start an entirely new game of "let's suggest an alternative to Falmer" (Norman Baker's favourite game) - how about Sussex County Cricket ground? Ideally situated relatively near to the Goldstone, and quite large.

So, ignoring Zefarelly's post, can we all assume that this Horsham bloke is a bit of a twat?
I thought all Horsham blokes were twats. (unless they support BHA, of course)

Cement Works:

Asbestos contamination and demolition will cost £10 million extra. Maybe much more, more like £20 million?

Railway would cost £120 million.

Roads would add on £35 million.

And it is completely unnecesary because there is a perfectly good alternative site at Pende anyway, which would be cheaper and bigger than Falmer with better transport links.

Some people may not think Pende is any good. But it is not only better than Falmer, but it is a better location than every single football stadium location in England.

But do not let facts get in the way, they may only be opinions.

By the way, it would be quicker as well.

As I think Prescott will probably say No (the Dibden Ports plan was turned down) I think Pende may turn out to be the best plan.

Falmer is flawed.

It is not big enough and is too expensive. No room for expansion.
I think Pende would be the best bet. (It is not an Ay-ONB either.)

However, until the consensus says that Pende is better than Falmer, or Prescott says NO, Falmer will always remain favourite.

PS: Planning permission would not cost a bean at Pende either, because an outside developer would pay all the costs.

1 - crap , people will travel miles and do so more and more these days
2 - the road is easily widened and the bed of the railway is still in place, also theres a bus service in place which could easily be 'upped' at peak times
3- decontaminate ???? explain . . .theres a lot of chalk dust but not much else, a lot of the old kit could be recycled/sold as scrap or even sold to the far east (happening a lot with old machinery), but I do agree its a bit project to manage which ever way you look at it.

4 - you've been brainwashed by Crabtree
:lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

1)where?
2)The whole area (as with Falmer) is on the edge of the edge of the proposed national park and AONB. It would take a lot to lay on enough buses to get out there. There is currently one an hour.
3)Asbestos
4)Ski sports cente ~ got knocked on the head because of the cost of the above.

Other points:

Next to the river beneath the downs ~ potential flood risk

No local pub

Same problem of NIMBYS

I'd have to move back to Upper Beeding

What do you think of people suggesting Newhaven as a alternative. I have heard a few people from Newhaven mention their town could be considered (think sites Newhaven Quays). Thats about just as far from Brighton as Upper Beeding, but it has better transport links. What do you think?

When will people realise ... there is no alternative to Falmer.

I reckon that all this crap about the cement works was initiated by an anti falmer group in a pathetic attempt to de-stable the Falmer proposal.

If the ODPM thought for one moment that there was a viable Plan B, they may be more likely to turn Falmer down,

Percy, if you mention Pende on this site again, I can't be held responsible for the consequences! What are you? Palace in disguise or something? This sort of tosh just gives more ammunition to the bloody NIMBYs who are capable of coming up with enough stupid ideas themselves without your help. Strange as that may seem...

THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE TO FALMER!

Got it?

(PS Upper Beeding has always been a non-starter. For so long, in fact, that it pre-dates the Falmer application. It's been earmarked for quite a different sort of development)

I understand that Archer is looking for a suitable site to relocate the HQ of the FOCUS-DO-THEM-ALL Group.

Greg Stanley has been offered a warehouse to store his liquid refreshments.

Seems this mammoth sized chalk pit would be ideal especially as some parts, off road, are very dangerous - bit like quicksand.

Now if Archer and Stanley were to pay a site visit any volunteers to show them around ?
