I think it would go down to how it was rounded up or down rather than goal difference. If Brugge and Union are tied I think Union pip them. So still all to play for.

The first tie break for teams level at the end of he playoffs is removal of rounds up points. The second is regular season finishing position, goal difference doesn’t come into it.
If USG and Club Bruges finish level on points then USG will be champions as Bruges have half a point added to their total at the start of the playoffs (when regular season points are halved).

It would be typical USG for Cercle to win and USG to blow a winning lead in the last 15 minutes.

If effect, USG have suffered a large points deduction this season. Not for FFP reasons or cheating, just for being too good.
It’s really no surprise that they fail to respond positively to this sanction year after year after year.
It's a bizarre system
Nobody is arguing at Leeds' six point deduction "for being too good" compared to Southampton.

To be fair, I don't dislike the Belgian play off system. I think it's quite innovative. I mean yes, USG have arguably been robbed, but they've lost the games that matter in the final six. Them's the breaks.

If you play every team home and away and are the best team over ?38 games, surely by being the best you are the champions. To then belittle everything that’s gone on before, is just wrong in my mind.
Were Leeds miles better?
I only watched the first half and thought Southampton were better. Over the season there was only 3 points between them anyway….
But you can't be in favour of any sort of play off system if you want it all decided on the end of season table really.
I think the playoffs in any league are a way of keeping meaningless games to a minimum. A necessary evil in the professional era. At least there is some merit in the Belgian play off system. I just it doesn't sit well with some here because it decides the actual champions, but Belgian football probably needs that more than our top league to be fair.

By your reckoning, Leeds were the 3rd best team in the Championship, which would surely mean that they should be one of the three teams promoted to the Premier League*. At least with the Belgium system, there is an advantage to finishing with the most points, unlike our play-offs, and it means that all games count right to the last day.
*But it's Leeds, so it's not unfair; it's just LOLs.
