A little? It was f***ing outrageous.

My sister is in her 30s. She's worked all her life since leaving school, has 2 kids and is split from their father. Two years ago she was made redundant through no fault of her own. Four months later she got a job, not a good job, but a job. She's now managed to move onto a better one. Clearly she's no scrounger.

Under YOUR "proposal" however, during those 4 months she would have had no money for rent, or to feed and clothe her kids for those four months. How would YOU expect her to survive?

People like you piss me off, I have no hesitation in giving you grief on a forum like this because you deserve every word. You are ignorant, pig ignorant.

your sister deserved help, she was trying to work and she had worked and those people are what the system is designed for. However the system is abused far to often by people with no intention of working and i would cut their benefit dead after a finite amount of time. I believe that is what they do in Australia and i like it.

And then cut their JSA to ZERO. Other benefits ( if they are due and in my partners case they aren't ) are calculated separately.

Let's make it clear income related JSA ( which I believe is 70-80% of claiments currently ), gives you £70 odd quid a week and NOTHING else. No free prescriptions ( my partner still has to pay the eight quid a shot for a medicine ), no free dental ( basically it's tough shit if you get toothache ) and no council tax relief.

So before people get on their high horses ( and I guess most of them have never been unemployed ) try remembering there are a lot of people out there who have lost their jobs and are struggling. By all means target the long term scrongers but to suggest that just because someone is on JSA means they're some sort of second class wanker is frankly stupid.

Who suggested they were second class wankers?

you live in cyprus ..no ? i live in perth ..! perhaps we should but out ........ but basically ,fair enough ...you are out of work , nothing else to do but sit on you arse watching the box ...why not get out and do something , like paint a fence, pier, lamp post.you may say why should i..? well i say why not...?

I'll tell you why not, because if the fence, pier, lamp post needs painting somebody should be paid a wage for painting it. Getting people from the dole to do it for free actually removes work from other people that need it.

This coming from the poster who when asked to post evidence that a fair proportion of those claiming JSA were not looking for work said "Have you tried walking down Boundary Road?"

Yes and I followed that comment with a smilie, indicating it was a little tounge-in-cheek.

Yes, and you wanted to take their money of them and leave them with no means of support.

Alright, and I've gone back on that now. Good grief, calm down.

Maybe, but that isn't what safeway suggested. He wanted to take it from EVERYBODY.

Laughable! We live in a capitalist system, survival of the fittest, if you don't like it, North Korea is East of here. The welfare system was designed as a safety net to catch those fallen on hard times, NOT a ticket for life. There is NO excuse for long term unemployed, there IS plenty of work out there, it may be hard and subject to modest pay, TOUGH! Do it and be proud! Those with chronic illness and disability are slightly different, but in my time as a primary healthcare practitioner, EVERY single patient with a genuine disability actually WANTED to work and rejected special treatment, those with "pseudo chronic" illness were the ones looking for a meal ticket!
I am all for those of us that are able to "Assist" the less able. I am NOT for supporting the less well off, get some ambition and do better by yourself. I am tired of seeing my tax contribution frittered away on underclass lifestyle, smoking, drinking, drugs etc. If thats what you want, get a job and learn to budget your income, simples!

That makes it better? So when YOU'RE asked for evidence you take the piss, but expect somebody else to "argue constructively"?

f***ing hypocrite.

Alright, and I've gone back on that now. Good grief, calm down.

So why did you say it in the first place?

Is it because you're an ignorant prick?

That is not the right way to do it either. Help people who have helped themselves. This is what, in my opinion, the welfare state is for. I believe it will all come crashing down one day because it is abused so much.

Not you and apologies if it seemed as though I accused you personally of it. The original posts by Safeway effectively implied it but he's now clarified his position to a more reasonable one. PSB has made statements in another thread to such an effect.

Which comment? I haven't even vaguely suggested that anything you've said in this post is reasonable.

likewise mate .......where do you think all this money comes from..? how long can it go on ..? why should people keep getting bailed out ad infinitum...? who pays in the end ? why should those who pay keep paying for those who dont ..............don't you get it...?? have you got a washing basket for a head...?

Have you tried posting in sentences rather than questions?

There's a consistency emerging in Cameron's thinking, though.

Cut the benefits of folk who aren't working. And cut the job security of folk who are working.

I'm not sure where he wants to lead us, but I'm fairly certain I don't want to go there.

what would you suggest is the answer during this dire time of financial hardship? We have, as a country got to take our medicine and that means cuts in order to pay our debts.

the fence , pier , lamp-post is public property .........therefore there is no reason why someone shouldn't paint the fuckers for their dole money......surely your rent paid + 80 quid (neg) is a good starting point and better than breeding a whole new generation of habitual sedentary, untrained welfare recipients.

Theoretically you are right, but in reality what workfare, as it is sometimes called, achieves is to 1) give the person a purpose/reason to get off their arse, 2) Helps the local economy by reducing the council overheads for this type of entry level work money better spent elsewhere in the community, 3) Provides the individual with training of sorts.
