I think they should all receive the same: nothing, and be forced to get a job like normal people.

I'm currently on JSA ( going to probably get slated for it on here ) BUT I do voluntary work and doing various courses to gain qualifications and a good reference. Work is hard to find at the minute and even apprenticeships are even harder to get.

If there are jobs that need doing people should get a living wage for doing them.

All very noble of course, until we all realise that the wage for these 'entry level' roles is reduced to minimum wage by the Eastern Europeans, who even at minimum wage are able to earn more than at home, and dont as a rule ( some exceptions of course), have a family and a household to support.

OBVIOUSLY there are genuine cases for unemployment, sickness, disability, redundancy etc, but there are STACKS of low lives (half of my wife's family for a start) who are quite happy to sit on their arse and watch Jeremy Kyle while popping kids out, knowing that everything is paid for.

I don't doubt there are people like that but I'd question your phrase of "a fair proportion". As a regular user of Portslade station I see many people going into the job centre but I'm not stupid enough to judge them by the way they look. As someone who has been in that situation and who currently has a partner in that situation I get somewhat pissed off with the sweeping generalisations by f*** wits like PSB - please don't join his gang !

While you do, take into account the people who CAN'T work through sickness, the people (such as my next door neighbour) who are over 50, have been made redundant, and have little to no chance of getting back into work due to their age, people who would do pretty much anything just to get back into work.

hospital cleaning/maintenance ,civic buildings in general.........maintaining railway thoroughfares , licking golf courses clean ,litter picking up of, clearing seaweed off the beach........you can say they should get a living wage , what do you call a living wage........i worked 40 hours a week on a yts when i left school for 25 quid a week ..is that a living wage .... and that was f***ing 25 years ago . i think your rent paid and 80 quid a week is more than fair, but that's just me.

yes but you were proposing that NO-ONE gets JSA........as pointed out above, there are a lot more unemployed people than there are jobs on offer.....are those who are actually looking for work supposed to starve to death?!

It is crazy that, under the new proposals, someone aged 24 that has worked full time since the age of 18, contributing taxation each month towards the housing benefit bill for a solid six years isn't entitled to claim from the pot if he is suddenly made redundant.

The pot isn't bottomless unfortunately.

Perhaps my initial comment was a little sweeping, but the fact remains that this country allows people to take the piss. We're expecting our first child in October and because we both work we will get something like £20 a week Child Allowance. If we were on Job Seekers (that name's a joke, because it implies the recipient is actually looking for work), we would receive a free £500 grant in addition to all the other goodies such as increased benefits, milk vouchers etc.

or at worst case ....work for dole , ie you get your rent paid and 80 quid a week as long as you are working at whatever you are asked to do , this has to be across the board however which brings us perilously close to communism doesn't it...??

If there's work to be done, people should be paid a wage for it. At the very least, minimum wage. Community work for dole money is just a form of slavery.
