Another topic making a dig at those who are claiming JSA - but then looking who posted it, it doesnt surprise me.

I was on it for 4 months (up until a few weeks ago), without it i would have had absolutely no income. I dont fall in the scrounger catagory either, unless taking steps to find work daily is scrounging of course !! Shame that just because about 10% or so of JSA claimants sit on their arses doing nothing, all unemployed get tarnished with the same brush.

Some people seriously need to take a look at themselves before bitching about others.

Good to see your search was fruitful, although of course, there are those in this thread who think that instead of looking for work, your time should have been occupied painting lamp posts.

I think they should all receive the same: nothing, and be forced to get a job like normal people.

The one flaw in your arguement is that there are no jobs.

Huge? Have you TRIED living on the dole?

I have no problem with forcing people into work, IF and only if, they are paid a fair wage for it.
No I havnt, because since 1979, with an average O level education, I have had 4 jobs and not a single day of unemployment. And before you ask I originate from council estates in Brighton and Shoreham.

An unemployed persons fair wage is the dole and housing benefits ( I suspect if you add up those two, you would get close to an entry level but "fair wage", correct me if I am wrong here please) .

Only because you get JSA it doesn't automatically follow that you get housing benefit.

I see you are showering me with facts and figures to support your assertion..... I do stand corrected sir!!

Seriously, tell me what a basic fair wage is? £200 per week? I suspect that with housing and other benefits, plus the £80 p/w dole, thats a basic "fair wage",.... is it not?

There's a consistency emerging in Cameron's thinking, though.

Cut the benefits of folk who aren't working. And cut the job security of folk who are working.

....and both choke the economy. To me, he seems to be stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to be the caring Conservative and appease the far right of his party. His own man he is not.

Are you seriously suggesting a fair wage would be one below the minimum wage ?

There are a few flaws in his argument. One is the obvious lack of jobs. Another is that it is all very well targetting the benefit scroungers, but what about their kids? These youngsters don't deserve a life of poverty or worse. What is needed is a change of culture towards benefits, such that it should be considered a source of shame for an individual to claim benefits from the state that they don't need. And similarly, I am tired of hearing how it is not immoral for wealthy people to ensure they pay minimal tax. Bollocks- it is highly immoral to be paying only 10-15%, let alone the 1% Jimmy Carr and co are paying.

The argument that infuriates me the most is the one which goes 'Do you use an ISA? Do you ever buy duty free fags? Then you can't have a pop at Carr. You're evading tax''. f*** OFF.

Possibly, if it is one earned by the process of unemployment, otherwise the min wage should stand. A 35 hour week would return around that figure I guess.

Current rates are:

•£6.08 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
•£4.98 - the 18-20 rate
•£3.68 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
•£2.60 - the apprentice rate

Thats the point noone will starve, there is work, its humble pay and not glamorous, but work none the less!

I'm sure Noone will do just fine :) ;)

craig-noone-portrait.jpg

the fence , pier , lamp-post is public property .........therefore there is no reason why someone shouldn't paint the fuckers for their dole money......surely your rent paid + 80 quid (neg) is a good starting point and better than breeding a whole new generation of habitual sedentary, untrained welfare recipients.

The trouble with this is that it it will cost the local council to train the unemployed to carry out these tasks, and the administrative burden, too. Where do you think the money for this will come from? Your next council tax bill goes up to 'administer' the cost of getting the unemployed to do these community service jobs, which raise no additional income to the council I might add. Would you be happy paying more, so those on unemployment benefit are doing something for their money?

I know I wouldn't.

I heartily agree, CHAPPERS. As if taking advantage of a government scheme created to promote savings and invest in business to a limit of £7,000 a year or whatever can be equated to paying 1% income tax on your modest salary of £3,300,000 a year.

And there needs to be a distinction between benefit scroungers and those genuinely out of work or in trouble. His language does not do this, it generalises and panders to his far right. It's no coincidence that he screwed up last week (yet again) and was getting pressure from the far right who were questioning his leadership so this week he comes out with the nasty stuff. Say what you like about Blair, at least he was his own person and led his party.

It's only tax free if you're invested in a cash ISA. Stocks and shares are taxable. The limit for tax free saving is £5,640 a year. I don't disagree with anything else, though. It's not the same thing.

The way the west country is being neglected it will not be long before you are on the dole.
