Trains To Falmer On Matchdays (Possibly new info)

Including the non-stop Ashford - Brighton trains, the current train operations through Falmer Station provide about 1,100 seats per hour in each direction. With standing capacity, that is probably about 2,000 passengers an hour. Taking away non-football passengers, I would make a wild guess that there is room on the existing trains for about 1,200 - 1,500 football passengers per hour in each direction.
A "strengthened" service will deliver more spaces, but I can't imagine that it could ever be strengthened to the point at which even 3,000 football passengers an hour could be accommodated from Brighton. A total of 4,500 Brighton passengers (as mentioned above) would certainly take more that one hour to deal with - probably more than two hours.

Be like the Emirates where everyone fucks off 15 mins before the end. Even worse than Withdean.
Saturdays people can hang about and even waiting (as you do at most grounds) can be tolerated. Mid week is a totally different thing with the majority needing to get back to get things sorted for work the next day etc
Anyone any idea how long it would take to walk to Brighton station ?

I heard 55 minutes from Falmer to the Vogue Gyratory, so add about another 25-30 onto that. I await correction from anyone who has actually done that walk and timed it.
However don't get into training yet, I think one of the solutions that might come about is shuttle buses running non-stop from Falmer to Brighton station. This will allow people from the North and West to get their trains and leave the actual Falmer to Brighton trains to be mainly 'local' traffic, i.e. people wanting the intermediate stations. Plus of course the current non-football passengers.
EDIT: Or maybe even just run the shuttles as far as the Old Steyne and let people walk up Trafalgar Street. They could have a quicker turnround that way.

Seems to be the sensible option to me. Like hundreds/thousands of others, I won't have a choice but to get the train as far as Brighton station (and back from), but if there's a quick shuttle bus I have no problem with that instead of a second train to Falmer...

Queueing at the bus stop for 20 minutes and 12 buses turn up altogether wont be any different to a lot of passengers

it wouldn't be quick that's the problem ,LEWES road at the best of times is busy with loads of traffic light systems and then you have the gyratory system around sainsbury's and Bear road to contend with , around 12 - 3 pm on a Saturday it's rammed , people need to wise up a bit on this.

It took me precisely 55 minutes from Brighton Station to the stadium; at a fairly fast pace; when I tried it.
It could go up Ditchling Road and down Coldean Lane. Though it can be difficult to turn right at the end of Ditchling Road (I've never understood why they haven't put a roundabout in there).

Busy ... but not impossible (although there will be conflict between lots of buses and the cycle lanes).the road outside cockroft and mithras house is busy at the best of times ,it isn't going to get any easier on match day
I speak as someone who works opposite Mithras House and next to the main University car park that serves the Cockcroft/Watts buildings - and I run a transport operation.

There may have to be traffic restrictions/diversions in place. When we were at the Goldstone they used to close the Old Shoreham Road at the back of the North Stand at the end of a match.

I seem to recall at the last inquiry a wise old owl telling me in hushed tones that the train arrangements for Falmer were where the NIMBYs could catch us out bigtime. Lucky for us the daft fucks were too busy wasting time spouting on about mythical monorail systems to do a bit of basic maths. Ha. Ha.
Bit shit now its become reality and we all face MAJOR queues to get back into town by train though, especially after a midweek game.

I get the impression that, for some people, maybe it would have been better if we hadn't got Falmer, stuck so far out in the wilds of Sussex where people will have to take provisions for the week as they bid goodbye to their loved ones and embark on their epic journeys.
