I don't know whether this is significant, but the Southern website is now showing two additional departures from Brighton to Falmer on Saturday 16 July - the extra trains leave Brighton at 1302 and 1402 and run non-stop to Falmer. Other departure times are at the usual 10, 22, 40 and 52 minutes past the hour, calling at London Road and Moulsecoomb.

As of now, the timetable for Saturday 6 August is still shown as the standard 4 trains an hour timetable - but this may, of course, be in the process of being updated.

So there are 8 trains between 13:02 and 14:22... That's looks like good news... anything extra scheduled for the return journey??

If you look at trains for tomorrow from Falmer to Brighton there are trains at 17.05,17.21, 17.36, 17.51, 18.05.

On the 16th there are trains at 17.05, 17.15, 17.21, 17.30, 17.37, 17.52, 18.05.

So again, 2 extra services.

...the next two are Friday and Tuesday against Leeds and Palace respectively. Can you see many away supporters using coaches for these two games, because I can't.

i can, if fans want to avoid kipping overnight in a station platform. theres only (currently) 3 trains from Falmer after 10pm that will get you back to London, and the last Leeds train is at 23:30, which would need a prayer to catch. expect alot of driving from Palace and alot of coaches from Leeds.

RE the Ashford service, i know its currently only two carriages, but they'll arrange to have that extended and stop, shirely?

I don't think telling people to "wise up" is going to help though. If it does end up taking as long to get there as it did to Gillingham, it's going to put a lot of people, particularly JCLs, off.
well after reading that load of bollocks , you're definitely in that bracket

I notice the suggestion of running a fast shuttle service from Falmer to Brighton Station. There is one big problem with that suggestion. Currently B&H buses are struggling to get enough buses to cover the P&R service. To shift even 500 people to the station in an hour would need probably an extra 10 buses as dont forget the buses have to get back from the station so them doing 2 journeys an hour would be unlikely as there will be all the extra traffic on Lewes Road.

The only way B&H could offer that service is to run a Sunday service on the Saturday between 1.30 and 3 and 4.30 and 6 which would just about give enough buses to cover the extra people.

I fully expect to see other companies buses being hired in as extra cover at some point as well

and where do they find the extra drivers? Especially as I think the bender buses need a difference licence to drive over non bender ones.

Would be better to turn them at St Peters and get people walking up Trafalgar Street as well, would knock at least 10 minutes off the journey

I just got on the train from Ashford to Lewes and it was a joke 2 carriages and there was at least 40 people standing up in mine alone, was beyond stupid.

I think there is a train that runs into Lewes from Victoria i hope thats bigger as the train i was on, no way in hell on a match day with teams coming from London is the service going to cope

They should run the bender buses as a shuttle to and from the Old Steine, don't see these being used on a Saturday and an easier journey to the OS and back than getting to the station

You can use the bender bus, but I will use the bendy or a normal one.

Of course, the worst possible thing that could happen, in the future, would be a rail strike. What would be the club's plans for the p&r then. Side road parking or local buses would be impossible.

forget about rail strikes, what about when there is engineering works? Much more likely and a lot of buses will already be hired to cover the regular train service

Couldn't some one set up a business, where they run a bus service to and from the Stadium from two or three locations (I'm thinking Brighton Station, Lewes Station and maybe Town Center), and people just man up and put up with the fact the bus journey in to town may take a bit longer?

Imagine 6 buses running Amex-Brighton and 5 running Amex-Lewes non-stop in a convoy. Go for 2 pounds for a single/3 pound returns, with more journeys after the game than before (to cope with those who made the train there but realize its a shit way to get back with 8 running to Brighton and 5 to Lewes).

80 passengers * 11 buses * 3 journeys = 7920 pounds @ 3 pound return tickets...

Not enough drivers and/or not enough available vehicles is the bane of the public transport industry. I can't see the good citizens of Brighton and Hove tolerating reduced frequency bus services, just because there is a football match on - and it would be crazy for B&H Buses to ignore the fact that they have getting on for 200,000 passengers a day to keep happy.

But it also raises other questions ... are there enough coaches to provide for the all out-of-Brighton fans? Where are stagedoortickets hiring them from? And what about all those pubs who are said to be organising minibuses? Where are they getting the vehicles? Who's driving them?

All will no doubt be revealed ... in due course.

And where are they going to be parked; after all, 40 of the 60 spaces in the coach/bus park have already been taken by the coaches carrying the 2,500 or so away supporters?
