Can't happen. The driver would be beyond the platform signal and would trigger a red light. But carriage 1-4 could be unlocked with 5-6 locked

Thanks I wouldnt have known that and neither would many others about the platform signal. Presumably the driver couldnt pull forward and unlock 5 & 6 for the same reason.

Didnt Lord B say extra trains was not possible nor was having trains with more carriages so will be interesting to see what they come up with.
No. I said that there is a limit to the additional capacity that can be provided. And that it was impossible to make all trains 8 coaches long.

Currently, the service on the line through Falmer runs with five trains an hour - one 2 coach train (that doesn't stop at Falmer), two 3 coach trains and two 4 coach trains. Some of these can be made longer - possibly up to 6 coaches. And the non-stop train can be made to stop at Falmer. I'd be interested to find out whether they can increase the service from five trains an hour to six.

Whatever Southern do, though, they will not be able to deliver a service to all of the 30 per cent of Albion season ticket purchasers who responded to the Club's travel questionnaire by saying that their first preference was to travel to and from games by train. Some of these folk will have to make alternative arrangements.

As I said on the other thread, fom a transport planning point of view, it's crazy to encourage more people to use an overcrowded railway, by offering fare discounts, through the Travel Voucher scheme. But that's what has been promised.

Correct. People in 5&6 would have to leave the train through carriage 4
... all of which takes longer, and makes it harder to add additional trains into the timetable.

The way they run over-long trains at the moment is to say to people that if you are travelling to, say, Glynde (which is something I do every day), you MUST travel in the front six coaches. Some London trains that stop at Glynde have as many as 10 or 12 carriages.

Just shows how somebody can misinterpret what was said. I am hoping to travel by train from HAYWARDS HEATH simply because it is easier and more convenient than using a car especially with the parking problems not completely solved.

I would recommend that you travel from Haywards Heath to Falmer via LEWES.

With the current timetable, it's quicker and the same price.

Maybe Southern will introduce a loyalty scheme ? Those with 0 points don't get to board the train. :lolol:

I posted ages ago that the plan is to substitute the Ashford 2 car diesel that arrives in Brighton approx 1720 with an 8 coacher 377 stock stopping additionally at Falmer at 1710. This is what they do at the Eastbourne Airshow weekend too, the Seafords can't be strenghtened as they are 313 stock so will run as 3 cars due to the problems on the Seaford line with longer trains.

Certainly going to be fun and games especially when away fans are thrown in.

Most people will tolerate waiting 45 mins like Villa. Any more than that and hangovers kick in and people get narked

That was my intention as I did for the original session at Falmer. It was very quick and efficient but not so sure about a matchday.

On another point that I posted on another thread for the Leeds game I am driving to the New Forest erecting my trailer tent and then driving back for the game picking brother in law up in Ferring (near Goring) watching match and driving back to New Forest do you think I would be better to park near Hove or Portslade station and get a train or can I drive nearer and park.

Thanks, Ernest. Do you think they will be able to load this fully at Falmer before the next train is due (from Seaford) at 1721?

We've looked at driving to HH on the A272 from Alfold/Loxwood. It's not brilliant for the return home in the evenings; 21.50 and 22.40 from Lewes are the last two direct to HH so you're dependant on one train.

Your problem especially for matches ona Saturday will be parking unless of course you want to park in Sainburys car park and fight an illegal ticket if you get one. Think it is a 3 hour limit, but not 100% sure, will look next time I go in there. I know it is patrolled by Euro Parks.

Not to mention the 90% of away fans who weren't asked as won't have much of an alternative.

True. Its going to be carnage in town at 2.35pm when hundreds of visiting supporters descend upon the station, only to realise they have little hope of getting anywhere near the stadium much before half-time...

That was going to be my next question - thanks for the bad news. What will you do for parking in HH, I thought you lived in BH?
