Is he going to be able to do this? If he calls an election he won't have much of the Tory Party infrastructure to help him run his campaign and, as we don't have a presidential system, he is also going to have to get x hundred MPs of the Boris is fab party elected too. I'm not sure I can see that happening, particularly if they stand against 'official' Tory party candidates.

i was wondering if this splits the party, going into an election with half the MPs openly opposed to the leader, the other mixed. how would you even campaign?

but no. he wont call an election as that would be admission of defeat. so then i wonder how long he can continue as PM without a majority support in parliament. probably could get as far as autumn budget without needing a vote. i dont think the PM can actually resign, they have to tell the Queen who should take over and then appoint them. i dont think Johnson is going to recommend anyone. interesting times.

An election right now at this moment would be an astonishing thing. The Tories would do well to get 100 seats. A sight to behold

He won’t because he’s exposed for the sociopathic narcissist that he is. And we’ve known he is for a long time. The parallels with Trump are there for everyone to see and history remember. A man who thinks he’s Churchill’s heir, a more damaging delusional PM this country has never seen. It’s a worrying trend in politics. Hence I’d celebrate his assassination if anyone was crazy enough because if that’s what it takes these days for this new breed of ‘democratic’ politicians to go….? Basically, I’m happy to see them leave office in a box because they are beyond contempt and have become self appointed dictators such is their thirst for power and to hang onto at any cost.

Normally I would struggle to agree with you and say that we have a tradition of decency, honour and fair play. But, Johnson debases and corrupts anyone, anything and all the great offices of state that he comes in to contact with.

He's like a split tube of reverse Superglue left lying around, anything that contacts it starts to fall apart and disintergrates.

He needs to be thrown out of office by the rules and obligations that we, and particularly the Tory Party stand for. The Cabinet should resign enmasse at 9am this morning and any MP offered a post should refuse it.

Helen Whately, the exchequer secretary to the Treasury, has just announced her resignation from government.

In her resignation letter to the prime minister, she said she has argued for Boris Johnson to continue in recent months but "there are only so many times you can apologies and move on".

Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis has resigned, becoming the fourth cabinet member to leave their post.

In his letter to the prime minister he says a "decent and responsible government relies on honesty, integrity and mutual respect - it is a matter of profound personal regret for me that I must leave government as I no longer believe those values are being upheld."

We are in a parliamentary democracy, where our MP is voted for by us, represents us and does things on our behalf. That vote is not a vote for the leader of the winning party.

Technically yes. But who is leader plays a significant part in voting intention; you only have to read this site to realize this. The bottom line is if you voted Tory, you supported and/or enabled Boris; the will of the people.
