The problem about relying on overtime to make up lost earnings after taking industrial action is that management may take on casuals or agency staff to eliminate the backlog. Allegedly , the new uniform is going to be orange as RM are seeking a sponsorship deal with Tango.

Wednesday Morning apparently. I am a bit worried as they tried to deliver a Recorded Delivery to me last Tuesday, unfortunately I was at work and now have to go and collect it from the distribution centre, within seven days or it will be returned to sender. The seven days expires tomorrow, they are on strike, will they send it back on Wednesday morning before I have the chance to pick it up...for four days of this week they have been on strike.

Looks like RM want to introduce flexible rostering , so when you turn up for your shift you wont know what job you are doing until it is allocated to you. Likewise they can also tell you that your duty times have been altered for the following day so that they can run the business at maximum efficiency. The rota will just become a permanent Leave Reserve.
The TUC has hosted talks between CWU and Royal Mail over the last week. Those talks were specifically aimed at reaching a settlement with a view to averting the two 48hour strikes commencing Thursday 4th and Monday 8th October.
Clearly that process has now come to an end without an agreement. Real progress has been made in many areas, but there is agreement in none. The offer includes a pay increase of 6.9% over two years but this is subject to linking unacceptable strings including a reduction in pensions benefits. Royal Mail’s proposals also include flexibility proposals that mean, among other things, that postal workers will not know what job they are doing from one day to the next.
The CWU’s Postal Executive will now meet to consider the position reached through talks. Royal Mail continue to implement change without agreement. The union has already announced more strikes and these will continue. In the strikes over the last three days support among CWU’s 130,000 members has been overwhelming.
Billy Hayes, General Secretary, said “Royal Mail’s claims regarding the numbers of people at work are a poor attempt to detract from the truth that postal workers are rejecting their proposals in overwhelming numbers. They should stop using their efforts to spin and start putting them into reaching an agreement.”
CWU remains available for talks with Royal Mail.

No thanks - paid for a service, I expect it delivered. If we all collected our post from the sorting office, you would be out of a job!
Mmmmm - tell all those people that will be receiving bank charges for overdue payments as their post hasnt arrived for over a week. But hey ho, SOME people are all right - and anyway, am sure that answered Pettits question of when the strikes over - The 'I'm all right jack' is always a good answer :thud:

So can you just go down to your local sorting office and request normal post? I presume from what youre saying its already sorted, but not delivered? I live just down the road from the one by southampton airport

As far as i'm aware the 6.9% is bollox anyway as its worked out over a particualr period say 18 months but we haven't received our pay increase from april..
I think it works out around 2% a year.

It's funny how nurses pay increase is 1.5% - yet you dont see us striking - that's really when there'll be a problem in this country!!!
