When the NE went blue last time, Boris recognised that they had lent him their vote and it was up to him to deliver something for them. He failed, the pandemic didn't help of course, but quietly dropping levelling up was a massive balls up. Then Truss happened screwing everyone. Now that it has gone red again but there was a sizeable Reform vote, do you think that unless Labour deliver for the NE and quickly, another shift will happen in the next election?
Compared to the leaving speeches of Johnson and Truss, that was a very, very good speech indeed. Almost bereft of bitterness. Well done Rishi. Probably his best moment as PM.

I agree. He was always going to list some good things but he was gracious towards starmer. Shame he didn’t govern like that.

Like many on here, I didn't like Sunak and never believed he understood the plight of normal working people, but maybe he was still the least worse of the recent heads of his party, if that's any accolade.
It was still good that a person of Indian origin was able to be PM as that reflects well on our culture and society.
To his credit, his farewell speech was both graceful and magnanimous.
Let us never take for granted the peaceful hand over of power and grace in defeat, when our biggest global ally has dismissed that notion and a party that wants to mirror his ways took over 4 million and made sizeable % gains.

17.4m folk voted for Brexit, many many millions voted for Reform last night. That eclectic bunch of right wingers who appear on QT represent that mindset.
If I had my way anyone from either extreme who held racist, antisemitic, hate speech, misogynistic or fundamentalist views wouldn’t get TV or radio time. But who are you or I to determine such things.

Starmer is a decent-enough chap to throw some positivity in Sunak's direction when he gets his turn in front of the cameras. We'll find out soon enough.
It's just like boxing, isn't it? All trashtalk before the event, with kisses and cuddles immediately afterwards.
The one today. He has nothing to gain by not being ****ish. He could easily have snarled blame about the steal. I think he made a mistake, previously, denigrating what is obviously an honourable opponent.
People asking why Labour got only 35% and people are unimpressed with Starmer. It is because the people have been trained to expect a circus with clowns and hubris, Get Brexit Done. Etc.. Starmer isn't like that. He isn't like Blair either. I have a feeling he will be more popular in 5 years time than he is now, though.
