PA Media reports he will then travel to Buckingham Palace for an audience with the King, where he is expected to formally tender his resignation.

Then Keir Starmer will see the King at the palace.

He will be appointed as the country’s next prime minister and asked to form an administration. He will then be driven to Downing Street to address the nation for the first time as prime minister at around 12.20pm.

Yes. Anyone pointing out Labour’s vote share is ignoring the fact that there was a lot of tactical voting among progressives, which is a factor in the LDs doing so well.

This wasn’t a vote to get Labour in as much as the Tories out and many on the centre and left have organised to achieve this.

Not to mention that the Tories had to put up with having their vote split by Reform.

They've had 100 years of benefitting from having a split in the opposing parties.

Reform got a higher percentage of the national vote than the LD. One party has 4 seats, the other has 71. That tells you all you need to know about this archaic and un-democratic voting system. Two parties have been allowed to control our politics for years, carving up the seats between them. Study the figures and see how relatively little the Labour vote has changed and yet it creates a landslide.
It doesn't reflect the true voting patterns. Its a default result.

If that isn't an argument for FPTP, I don't know what is.

True, he has name recognition. Labour had all the data though and 6 weeks is nothing in terms of starting a new campaign. I think it's also because the Labour candidate had significant private healthcare interests and Corbyn is well known in Islington for looking out for his local constituents.

It depends what you think democracy is.

Populists will always get high percentages of the vote during challenging times.
The Lib Dems will have a slew of high quality MP candidates, with a history of working in local government.
Reform won't.

If we apply PR to last night's results, Reform get 90 odd seats.
I suspect the 30th - 90th strongest Reform candidate, may not be the strongest political operator and might not actually give much of a f*** about 90% of their job as an MP.

We don't know how people's votes would change in a different system though.

Lots of tactical and protest voting happening that may not in a PR system.
