Either way, IF these two men are convicted the punishment does not merit the crime committed. They'll spend their lives in prison, watching tv, relaxing in bed playing ps2 etc. THIS is where the real problem is.

Think a better example of not having the death penalty is needed quite frankly ;-)

Really? It perfectly demonstrates that you can make mistakes when angry and not in receipt of all the facts. If that had been raping a child - in your world i would be toast.

I tend to agree with you - but never having been in a prison i dont know if they do really play PS2 all day?

You make it sound like opponents of the death penalty are some how showing compassion or empathy with those committing crime. From my point of view not having the death penalty is nothing to do with showing mercy, and everything to do with accepting that the justice system is not perfect, and the risk of taking one innocent life through a wrongful conviction is one too many - and there have been many!

Of course people want surety of guilt, in many cases you can get it, but its a red herring because even with absolute guilt those that offer this view wouldn't want it anyway, so cut to the chase and offer a clear view.

I reckon being stuck in a small cell for the majority of the day would be a living hell, personally.

Not me it doesn't, I find it reassuring that these men that sexually brutalised an innocent child should die for their actions, I would comfortably feel intact as a human being too.

You're of course completely entitled to that opinion. Personally I don't find a society organised around vengeance either reassuring or comfortable.

Id rather someone rots for the rest of their life in prison so everyday they can regret what they have done. Giving someone the death penalty is the easy way out for a criminal.

That and the sick filth that have done this wouldnt get through prison, especially if their fellow inmates find out what they did.

If a man assisted a rape of a 14 year old, then he also loses any rights to be treated as human.

Choose your friends wisely, if it happens to be a child rapist that you assist, yep death for you too.

Thats ok then he ONLY assisted, im guessing he held him down or what ever? he will be out in 3 months once hes be rehabilitated by the system... what a joke.

Wow did you all miss the point.

That about Colin Stagg and Barry George, should we have all been happy to kick away the stool?

Barry George was the village idiot who clearly was stitched up from the odd, the Police have ALOT to answer for for wrongful convictions. THIS CASE IS NOT POLICE CLUTCHING AT STRAWS.

These blokes if convicted, kick the stool.

Tell me where the stitch up is here, them walking the kid to the toilets, or are you going to swerve it again?

We will never agree, so lets agree to disagree.

Are you saying the justice system works on gradings of guilt? One conviction is more guilty than another? You are absolutely guilty of murder, or you do appear to be pretty much sure of being guilty of this murder, one gets the DP and one gets life in prisonment? You're asking me to be clear when your own argument is one great grey area!?

So basically the police have not even found these men but you have charged them, found them guilty and killed them already, do you see what's wrong with that?

I reckon raping a random child in a department store would be far more hellish to me, personally.

T

Edit: I assume you have worded that wrongly.

Either way, the rapist will not be able to commit rape for a long time.

How many rape cases are there annually? Should all rapists be put to death? What about he said/she said type cases?

What rape should carry the death sentence and what shouldn't?

I'm not sure where people get this idea that prison is like a holiday camp.

Without entering the death penalty debate (my opinion has been made very clear many times), do you know this is the case? I have a family member who works in a prison and talks about what an absolutely awful place it is.
