I'm certainly not anti-union either - just stating facts that the new Govt. will reward those that voted them in, plus those that finance them.

In the same way the Tories rewarded big business.
There is more to it than that.

How many million big business voters are there?
The Tories seem in recent years (Johnson especially) keen to massively enrich a small number of their mates (and themselves).

The Tories stopped working for the electorate a long time ago.

Which is why we booted them out.

As for labour being in the pocket (?) of the unions, I have read (on NSC) that the BMA is run by a tiny number of Marxists. I found no evidence for this when I looked them up.

So labour 'rewarding' doctors hasn't got much to do with paying back a loyal union made up of raving Marxists labour voters.

Most medics (the ones I know, and I work with many) are Tories.

No, the pay rises currently directed at 'public sector' workers seem to have more to do with.... fairness, rather than the suggested 'graft'.

There are 40 trade unions of which only 11 are affiliated to Labour.

And look how the big boys of that 11 dominate the scene.

I’m very grateful to my old trade union for ensuring that women had access to a works pension. Many women worked part-time and were refused.
It went to the High Court, and the union won, thus ensuring I got a slightly higher pension as well as my state pension.
No room for any discrimination.

Also, my other half and I had our wills drawn up, free of charge, by union legal bods (without any fee).

That great for you, but surely you pay the union every month you were earning?
Do the unions support white British men who have dyslexia and ADHD ?

I’ve no idea, not being a man, although I am white, but you could ask them.

Sorry, you didn't answer me, did you pay the union ?

I can't ask them as I'm not part of one I just wondered how diverse they really are.

I wouldn’t have thought it needed an answer. Yes, I paid monthly dues which wasn’t much at all compared to the legal advice I could access free of charge, and the benefits I received.

Unions represent their members. Anyone can join a union, so they are as diverse as you want them to be, but I think you knew that.

Just like an insurance policy then.

The big problem with unions is they have unlikable characters like Mick Lynch stirring up division and being political.

Hmm,
Comment in The Times on August 2nd, ‘a number of militant left-wingers, veterans of the Corbynite takeover of the Labour Party have gained powerful roles in the doctors’ union’.
There have been other comments from moderate doctors re the BMA leadership on the letters page and if one cares to look up the likes of Dr. Emma Runswick on Google, it will give you a flavour of some of the characters in positions of influence within the BMA. Have a listen to the BBC NEWS video, Political Thinking with Nick Robinson, ‘The Emma Runswick One.’ Readily available on t’internet.
I would suggest that the BMA is not all the sweetness and moderation that you believe it is.👍

Well that means we will save loads of money when the Vast Majority of moderate conservative doctors refuse to take the pay rise that their Militant union leaders have negotiated.

And why on earth did all the moderate doctors elect these nasty Marxists in the first palce?

Something doesn't quite add up here...I wonder what it is? ???

There’s a growing schism within the BMA. Regarding puberty blockers, the leadership have decided they know better than the well received Cass Review, NHS England, members, and 23 current or former clinical leaders at Royal Colleges. This was widely reported.

If Mick Lynch was ever stirring up division (?), he was only reacting to the vindictive and ridiculous intransigence of the late Conservative government - it was they who were divisive. Mick Lynch always seemed reasonable and articulate!
and in those circumstances he was only doing his job, being political in response to the government being political - quelle surprise!

Can't disagree.
Although his views on Ukraine, Putin & China (& Brexit) are chilling, sadly

I think it is the NHS and Department of Work and Pensions you need.

It was 1993, with the government citing EU regulations and in 2016, Johnson & Gove promised that Brexit would mean it being abolished.
In the meantime, I believe Spain has stopped the 5% VAT on their energy bills.

Nope. Still charged at 10%.
