Bloody hell. One of the things that has pissed me off about the Villa game is the number of posts from people who've been disappointed, surprised, amazed, affecting mock horror, etc at the fact that we're taking more to Villa Park than we do each week to Withdean. The inference being that there's about 2000 'real' fans going and about 4,500 part-timers, glory hunters, 'plastics' (even though we've agreed that Brighton can't have plastic fans), etc. "How sad that they don't all go to Withdean."

There's one problem with that argument - it's total bollocks. Although Withdean crowds are about 5000 Albion fans it's not the SAME 5000 each week, and an attractive, all-to-rare day out at a top Premiership team is going to mean more fans making the effort to go all at the same time rather than 'taking it in turns' to go to watch a load of old third division dross at Shitdean. Why is that so difficult to understand?

Undoubtedly there will be a few people going who haven't been since Cardiff, but those of you who are snobbishly expecting to be surrounded by 'glory hunters' wondering why Leon Knight isn't playing are going to be disappointed - as you could have worked out for yourselves if some of you had any f***ing brains.

While I do think £24 is a fair whack, for those living outside of Brighton and travelling to the matches by train, that figure also includes a retun journey so for me actually works out as a good deal.

I have been to watch Crawley a few times too and they charge £16 to sit, for conference football. Cambridge United charge £18 to stand so I actually don't mind paying the £24 for the Withdean.

I don't mind paying £24, simply because of the circumstances that dictate the need to charge £24. It's not as if the price is high because of an unscrupulous board trying to make a quick buck now is it (well it is actually, but at least not the current one is what I meant).

Lowering the price at Withdean won't fill the ground, there are plenty of people that don't go not because of the price but simply because its a shit place to watch football.

It’s a no brainer for me. Due to work, family commitments plus living in the Midlands I have around 6-7 games in my give every season. So my dilemma is, shall I drive a 400 mile round trip to the Withdean or choose instead to watch my beloved at St Marys, Elland Road, Villa Park, MK Dons, The Valley and Carrow Road? You do the math.

Hats off to the "go to every game" brigade. But it's not for me anymore. I've got my stripes, and certainly don't feel the need to justify going less often to anyone else. I've done 3 home games this season, and haven't seen 1 albion goal. When you get older, there's just other stuff that's more important than going to football, and if I keep taking my youngsters to Withdean they'll hate me for life. My son is already asking why we can't support Chelsea instead!
But I'll be on the coach to Villa tomorrow with the whole family, singing till my throat is raw. Memories of big coach trips to places like Liverpool in the '80s are flooding back. Can't wait!:clap2:

I agree with the general thread of opinion here - people grow up and move away. Most do not change club or go and support someone else.

Put it this way - wouldn't it be a piss-poor showing if ONLY those who went to EVERY game at Withdean went to the Cup Final/Play-Off Final?

totally agree. ive had enough of this loyal supporter shit. When i was young, single and living at home I went home and away to see the albion for about 8 years. my 'loyalty' was unrivelled. now im older, ive away and have family commitments. i cannot justify spending £25 to sit at withdean stadium on a piss poor saturday afternoon. however, a once in a while trip ) like this saturday is justified. a persons ability to support is proportional to their wealth and commitments. (and a shit stadium doesnt help)

Agree entirely.

It's not glory hunters comming out of the woodwork, it's probably fans who have been many a time in the past wanting to go to a good ground for a change. They will come back when Falmer is there.......like myself !!!

And on the point of paying £24 to go to Withdean.........No F*cking way !!!. I can afford £24 but will only pay a maximum £15 from STH who cannot make games.

At many away games there are a substantial number of fans who only get to see the team playing around the country because they dont actually live in the south. Many of them will be in the home ends tomorrow at Villa Park due to them not having a BN postcode and no suspicions raised when booking online..

BYF - i think you are making the incorrect assumption that taking away the 4000 odd season tickets, the rest of the fans that attend withdean each game are the same 1500- 2000 people week in, week out.

It doesnt work like that. I will go 7/8 home games a season. A mate will go to same amount but we may not go to the same games. This is the same for lots of fans.

However when we get a big draw in the cup some people assume the glory boys come out.

Exactly. I said the same thing. And at the end of the day it's only 6,500 going; the 'glory hunters' argument has a bit more validity for things like the play-off final when it was 30,000 who went.

And even then instead of sneering the die-hards ought to go down on their knees and give thanks that we DO have so many who are prepared to support the club in that manner - imagine how pathetic it would have been to have had ony 5,500 fans at Cardiff!

They are not so much glory hunters as discerning people who will pay good money to watch an Albion team in a decent stadium against decent opposition. The Withdean experience has sucked for the last 5 years or so. Albion may have a hard core of 5k fans but it has the potential to go up to 20k, which is what the Falmer dream is all about. The numbers wanting to see this game 3 hours up the road from Brighton is proof that the club still has massive potential even after 10+ years of being tinpot

I've copied this onto this thread because its more relevent on here

I resent the fact that "apparently" according to certain NSC posters rules of supporting the Albion I would fall into the "Glory Hunter/Plastic fan" category. I hate it that because I am Not a STH I am an inferior fan! I live in LEEDS and have done all my life therefore cannot afford/get to Shitdean everyother week.

I support the Albion because of my dad and get to games when I can. So far this season I've been to Brentford, Bristol Huddersfield(tue), tranmere, carlisle and Norwich(tue). Which I feel is a good turn out especially Norwich which was a nightmare.

Cant everyone just accept there is gonna be well over 6000 of us there all hoping and praying for the same thing and have one common goal on the day Who cares were they have come from all we need to know is that they/we are there.

I could go on but i wont, mainly because i've calmed down(hissy fit over)

I just hope we can all just enjoy the day out tomoz and begin the bin fest for round 5. Then we can start slagging everone off again when we sell out another big club!!!!!!!!!

Weve got 6000 ish fans on saturday which i think is absolutely fantastic and shows when push comes to shove and a big game arises people will turn out.

This in theory does bode well for Falmer providing we are in a decent postion league wise.

I say all this but it does make you wonder when we cant fill withdean or sometimes even get close to the amount were taking away at a home game........WHERE HAVE THESE PEOPLE BEEN HIDING.....?!

Are these ex goldstone fans who couldnt bare to go to withdean, which I feel would be understandable or are they new born fans or the fence sitters who always look out for the result but never have been since the 1991 or was it 1993 Man United home game in which Becks made his debut.

I can picture the scene at Villa Park of balloons, Big hands and that durge of cheap trumpet like horns that will be blown by people who wouldnt know Gary Dicker if he was on the end of the pier with a seagull on his head!

We do sometimes make out that we have great fans and best in the league bla bla bla....but really when push comes to shove we really arnt all that special as a group of fans, granted for a decent away day we can drum up a good number and were well ahead of a lot of small clubs on our day, but I do wish these people that show up on Saturday that you or I have never seen before dont go and hide back in the cave they come out from for this one match wonder day at a prem ground.

Whoever you are and wherever youve been, pop down to withdean it aint all that bad!

When you consider, like you and me, there are many Albion supporters who are spread across the UK and generally stick to games in their area, luckly for me the Midlands over recent years has provided me with many away days. Matches like this will make fans like me and the Northen / Scotlands seagulls supporters clubs just go that little bit further for a match.
